Here's mine. I LOVE. LOVE. LOVE this little guy. Admittedly I kinda got turned on to these amps after seeing Jeff Beck using one, and I picked mine up at a pawn shop for $150 3 years ago. It was a little beat and badly in need of some new tubes, but once I swapped some new ones in, I was blown away! It's such a sweet, sweet sounding amp. I am definitely of the 'use the guitar volume control and pick attack' school, rather than having a million tone-sapping knobs and multiple channels, not to mention the dreaded "master volume" control, and this amp definitely fits the bill. I've gigged with it by itself, but it really sounds fantastic through the shellac'ed tweed Deluxe 1X12 cab in the pic. The cab has a Celestion G12P, and has been converted to open-back, and in this configuration the Pro Jr. gets LOUD. I'm also one of the people who thinks the way this amp breaks up is way more "Plexi" than classic Fender, especially with the British speaker. So what. It's awesome. It's definitely too honky to use for jazz, but I don't miss the JC-120 I sold to make room for this for a second. It's been utterly reliable, gigs great, records great. I'm not the biggest fan of the Hot Rod series either but IMO this is one of the 'new' Fender amps they definitely got right.

Right now I've got Electro-Harmonix preamp tubes and Groove Tubes EL84s in it. Stock speaker, but I'm looking to replace it with something Celestion, or maybe Eminence Red Coat, to get a little more of the midrange-y crunch it has out of the 1X12.

I guess I'm in the club now. I have a 1994 Tweed Pro Junior Made in Brea, California USA.
The original speaker was swapped on me with a Fender special during a warranty repair back in the 90s. It has the original tubes still sounding great. I also changed the Fender speaker to a Weber ALNICO magnet Signature 10" eight ohm speaker. It sounds great! I purchased this new when it first came out! I've also tried all new Mullard tubes in it for a while and I found they sound good also. I plan on putting all JJ Electronics in the future.

I've got JANPhillips 5751 preamp tubes, JJ/Tesla EL84's and
Eminence Rajin Cajuns in mine :

I think tung sol 12ax7's sound good as well.

Does having the 5751s in there increase the headroom? Also, how different does the Ragin Cajun sound opposed to the stock speaker, what are the main things it changed? Those are two mods that I think I'll likely do with mine after I get the excessive humming issue worked out. :)

Hey guys I'm really seduced by the PJ but there's something of what I'm not sure. How this works with a delay pedal, there is any kind of trouble without a loop... Thanks for the help.

I'm surprized and disappointed that there are not more people in this club. Those of us that have one of these know how great a tone these have. To answer a previous question, mine is one of the original ones made here in the states, in Brea, California, and it came with a blue frame Eminence ALNICO magnet speaker that sounded awsome, before it was stolen by a tech who did a warranty repair on it. They had replaced the Eminence with a stock Fender ceramic speaker. It is not a bad speaker, but the Weber I put in now blows it out of the water!

Exactly, the 5751s seem to tame a preamp that tends to overdrive too easily, allowing you to get a better 'clean' sound. The speaker swap gives more pronounced mids (to my ears) - it also sounds much fuller at stage volume and makes the best of the amp's small cabinet.

Good luck with the 'hum' issues, many seem to have them. I've been lucky in that respect...so far!

The earliest Pro Jr amps were manufactured in 1993, so if someone is advertising a Pro Jr that is older than that, you will know they are being...dishonest.

They hit the shelves at GC in 94. I got mine then. The plans I got it with say 93. I doubt they were in the stores in 93. I live in southern California and, it is made in Brea. The first issues did not hum or hiss like the Mexican ones either. Mine never has made funny noises. The one I demoed in the store in 94, was clean to the bone and, the tone impressed the hell out of me, even in that noisey store.

Many of these do have some kind of hum, hiss or noise, but
aside from tubes changes, you can separate the heater wires
from the other wires and re-routing them which seems to help
a bit.

On the original ones this problem did not exist. I have not tried the PJ IIIs out in the store but, I bet at $399 + tax, they should have the hissy/hummy problem fixed by now! If you have an original first issue like mine, you know how excellent they really are. Early breakup and loud as hell! The clean at lower levels is pure Fender tone ala EL84.

Nice coming together of Gospel and Blues! History repeats itself with some boogie soul to boot! I did not see a bass player but, it still sounds great! Somebody get that girl a pick! Wait a second! She doesn't even need one! Thanks for sharing that!
