Oh yeah, apart from the custom one I'm getting built, this other part (the leftovers) will be put back into the original cab with a Hammond chassis. I'll do a trim pot on the bias resistor (R29), I'll dress the cables better, fix the filament wiring (twist it into a nice little "capacitor"), and beef up the power section. The rest of the unit, I like!! Maybe I'll change out the stock speaker, not sure yet...

Wait until you see what I did with the original chassis!!

Sounds interesting and looking forward to it. I like the Emi Rajin Cajun speaker a lot.

I've heard nothing but good stories about the Ragin'Cajun. In the custom one, I've put a Jensen P12N, and that one sounds out of this world...

Looks (and sounds) like a good choice!

I am considering a purchase of either a used Pro Jr or a new Pro Jr III. I have intentions to mod this amp with a 12" tweed cab and at least a cap upgrade or kit upgrade. I need some help deciding on which one to purchase. After hearing Gearmandude's upgraded cab and speaker demo I was sold on that upgrade.

I can get a used Pro Jr for around $250, even a Pro Jr III can be had for around that price.

My question is which one should I try to find?

Who makes the best kit for internal upgrade?

Is there a circuit name for this amp that corresponds to a kit that can be built? I always see circuit codes when looking at kit amps. That may also be another option.

Thanks in advance.

TJ

You really don't "need" a kit.

Homemade pine cab with black tolex fits nicely under the PJ.

I wouldn't bother with a cap upgrade unless you're worried about reliability issues. A tube and speaker/cabinet change would yield a better sounding amp. I've seen more problems with people messing with boards then when they're left stock. I think they're fine sounding amps through a good extension cabinet. They're possibly one of the most reliable amps in the HRD series, but I wouldn't consider the a "Classic" Fender sound at all.

My wife got me a used Pro Jr for our 13th Anniversary
Image

It has a spare pair of electrical sockets! This is very useful when there are limited power outlets.
Image

It seemed to running on one power tube. And there were some attempted repairs and modifications.
Image

Long story short, I chassis mounted the sockets and recapped it.

And put in a new OT

And after testing several speakers, I finally settled on a Celestion Greenback 10.

I love the Classic Tone Trannies in my 5e3 Clone. Chassis mounting the tube sockets in the conventional manner as you did does away with many of the heat and board related issues. Nice job!

^Agreed^ - less of a torture chamber for the tubes.

Would like to see if you're still liking that speaker in
another few months of use.

What speaker is in that ? Jensen ? , model # ? . A friend of mine has a tweed pro junior that sits around mostly due to it having a " rattle " . I have a standing offer with him if he ever wants to sell it. Just curious what speaker it would have , I've never looked at one up close. I've got Pro Junior III already with the standard speaker Fender issues them with.
