I would say they are pretty close...same tubes and mostly the same configuration...however, the Blues Jr. is more flexible due to its extra tone shaping controls and of course the 12 inch speaker. That said both have similar tone. If simplicity is your thing then go with the Pro Jr. especially if you like to crank it up to LOUD!

FWIW.

I heard that people says that the reverb of the blues junior is not that good. Is this true?

I wouldn't say the reverb is the greatest. I think if it's a nice Fender reverb you're looking for then a used Deluxe Reverb Reissue would serve you best.

For some welcome simplicity I feel the Pro Jr serves its purpose. Shape your sound with an EQ and you're off. Many people really enjoy the Blues Jr, though 8)

It really all just comes down to your needs.

+1 The DRRI is actually IMO a way better amp. Better reverb, tone, build quality, two real channels with separate EQ and a rock solid design. The tube sockets are mounted directly to the chassis which adds to the reliability. I've seen clean used DRRI's for around $600 with some of the warranty still intact. The nice thing about two separate channels with separate EQ is you can have a Strat plugged into one and a Humbucker equipped guitar in the other without having to mess with the tone controls. A nice feature if you gig with multiple guitars.

Love my ProJr, especially after swapping the tubes for NOS Telam EL84 and JAN Sylvania 12AX7. You can deal with it and a reverb pedal if you will, just be carefull overdriving the amp and using the reverb as a pedal, other than that your fine, and it sounds way better than BluesJr.

I think i'll have to go try both of them myself and find the best tone out of the two amps. Any thoughts on the blues deluxe/deville reissue amps?

I get a kick out of someone saying the Pro Jr sounds "way better" than the BJR. If I tell you the BJR sounds "way better" than the Pro Jr does that make it so. No the only real way for you to determine that is to try them both. I own a BJR and I love it. The Pro is also excellent but I felt the 12" speaker and additional tone shaping available on the BJR gave it an edge. The reverb as mentioned isn't the classic Fender reverb but is still pretty good. I think you would probably like either amp.

One additional point I would make for the Blues Junior is that if you do any gigging the Blues Jr can be used in smaller venues without being mic'd. Depending on your music style or other band members a ProJr with a 10" speaker would have a tough time being heard without being mic'd.

Both of them sound a bit boxy to me, the Pro Jr more so. 10 and 12 inch speakers jammed in small cabinets just to make it easier to carry and more compact seems to be the problem for me. These things can really sing with an external cabinet, but that goes for almost any small amp. I'm thinking about a Weber Impedance Matcher to run my SF Champ through either one or both of my 112 Egnater Cabs. Still my Champ doesn't hit me as boxy sounding because there's a half decent size cabinet for that little 8" speaker. JMO/YMMV
