Hello people. I have a new Supersonic 22 - loving this amp. No noise issues whatsoever.

I can't read schematics, but a close friend of mine can. Does anyone have any pictures, images etc that show the bias test points for the 6V6's, and what mv range to bias them?

Last, does anyone favor any particular tube over the stock Groove Tubes?

Much thanks.

Try here (link below). Lots of info and some nice pictures. Should be just about everything that you would want to know about biasing the SS 22. If you do a search on this forum for "Super Sonic Bias", you'll get this link among others. :)

"...does anyone favor any particular tube over the stock Groove Tubes?"

You've opened a whole other can of worms with that question. I prefer the GTs myself, let the games begin. :)

hey there~

here is the forum link to this subject - GOTO page 4 for pic, and the whole post is very informative

viewtopic.php?f=13&t=47161&start=45

TP40(D35) and TP41(D36) should be around 18-24 mV and plate voltage, TP43(D38) 415 ish VDC.

my ss22 was 413 plate voltage and when i checked the bias ( new with stock tubes ) was 34 mV!!! no wonder my amp was getting so dam hot, you couldn't touch the transformer for more than 1/2 second without burning yourself. NOW after adj bias all is good. I like this amp. I use it for gig/rehersals and my back likes it too~ no more lugging my 2-12" 92 pounder !

Hi Shimm. I probably don't need it, but, it would be nice to have an image that shows where the bias resistor is. — I can't see it on any of these pictures.

Related to this topic... 6V6 tube choices....

I've replaced one of the Groove Tube 12AX7's in the amp (one of the pins was really bent, and the tube was also rattling). I've since swapped the GT for an Electro-Harmonix.

No complaints here, I really like this amp. BUT, I notice that the articulation I get at 4 on the Vintage channel's volume... starts to become a bit ratty and loose up around 6 or 7. - What is responsible for that.

On the BURN channel, I find if I play with the volume up around 5.5-6, it sounds really good with the GAIN 1 at about 2.5-3, and the GAIN 2 at around the same. But, they're not that useable beyond that - unless you start dialing down the treble etc, and turn up the middle.

What creates that ratty tone at the higher volumes?

Is this an issue with the 6V6's in the amp, or the Pre-amp tubes. I'd like some 6V6 tube suggestions for moderate overdrive - rock n' roll tones. Is there something drastically better than a Groove Tube 6V6?

Thanks.

hey ~

no intentions of being mean person.....

the pics are on page 4 of the above link and are clearly marked.....
do not go into there poking around if you have no experience, you could possibly die
under the right or should i say Wrong circumstances.

you prob have tons more experience than myself tho~

sorry if i presumed but the warning applies if needed

i personally love Electro-Harmonix tubes for a grab and go tube w/out breaking the bank
they really sound great to me

boiaudio.com is where i go for mine

i like the clean to be clean and the dirty channel to be dirty and just use the guitar volume for how much dirt i need for the song. and remember the mid is another volume control

peace~

I haven't used any EHX dual-triodes in a pre-amp yet but their 6L6's seem pretty righteous.

The info for bias at test points is on the schematic and the number used is for two tubes and not single tube value! Same for the 60W too! So if you set it at half the value thinking it is for a single tube you are way too cold! 32MV = 16MV at each tube! If you set it at 16MV then each tube only has 8MV!

I'm running a pair of their standard GC's in a '68 Bandmaster head -- they've been at it for close to 18 months now and still sound as beefy as the day I installed them. Sonically, they remind me of vintage Westinghouse bottles. I may grab a few more pairs for some upcoming projects.

The SS amps have two test points, one for each output tube.

I just varified you are right on my schematic. I was confusing the HRDx schematic with the SS.
