I noticed the other day after playing my Twin Reverb for an hour or so that the power transformer was really hot. To the point where I could not keep my hand on it. I realize that the 4 output tube amps put out alot of heat, but is this normal for these amps? Or is this the sign of a tranformer on it's way out?

Heat is a normal byproduct of a power supply tranny. As long as your tubes weren't red-plating and there weren't any weird smells it's likely okay.

I would say that 150 to 170 degrees F or even higher would not be unusually high, depending on the amp that it is in. Definitely normal to be so hot as to not be able to keep your hand on it for more that a second.

it is quite normal for the tranny to get hot,Some just get hotter then others it's just how it was made at the factory
