I'm liking TAD tubes for new production.

I'd add EHX, Red Ruby, Sov-Tek, and winged C's if you can find them. Some of the Tung-Sol re-issues are worthy but I'll pass on their new 6V6GTA's, at least for the immediate future.

Hard to beat NOS.
IMO, Electro-Harmonix tubes are the most consistant you can buy today. Manufactured by Reflektor in Saratov, Russia I believe.

I addition to the JJs in my BDRI, I have a Phillips JAN 5751 in V1. Sweet. :D

tungsol 6l6str 1-3 breakup in my bdri with fst preamp tubes. you can't beat that combo. the best i have tried hands down. it works wonders for the bdri. add a l.p. with some alnico 2 pups and you got tone heaven.

I think a good part of this comes down to - How much do you want to pay? In some recent research for retubing my DRRI, I found that prices were all over the place. The Tube Store has a "Vintage" set for $323. I opted for a more budget-oriented approach, and went with a set of JJs from Eurotubes for $109. I'm glad I did. They sound great, and are a vast improvement over the stock tubes.

Just put a set of JJ's in my DRRI and re-biased the amp. What a difference. The amp is now much warmer with a tighter bottom end. The NOS tubes in my champ are also fantastic. They just cost a bundle. It's almost a decision between sending your child to college or buying NOS tubes.

Just placed an order for pre-amp tubes for my 2 mew to me amps (Fender DRRI and Marshall Haze 40).

Jan Phillips 5751's (No brainer, I love these tubes)
Tung-Sol 12AX7's
EH 12AU7

In the DRRI I'm leaving V-1 empty, V-2 5751, V-3 12AU7, V-4-6 12AX7. In the Marshall V-1 5751, V-2 & 3 12AX7

I'll change out the power tubes as soon as I can find a local amp tech that doesn't want my amps for 2 weeks or buy the tools to do it myself.
