What is the v2 slot on the Blues Jr. and what does it do? To my understanding the tube in v2 won't even be part of the sound equation unless the fat switch is turned on?

V2 is the tone stack recovery and is always in the signal path regardless of the fat switch. The fat switch alters the Cathode circuit for half of V1. V2 recovers the signal losses caused by the tone stack. Only half of V2 is used, whereas both halves of V1 are used (one gain stage vs two gain stages). So V2 will have an affect on the tone, but not as much as V1 does.
