Pls excuse my lack of knowledge.....bought my son a footswitch for his 212R. Leds do not lite up and it doesn't seem to work. 1) does it need a stereo cord since it is a two button switch? 2) where can I find a list of compatible footswitchs for this amp in case it ends up being DOA? 3) what powers the leds in the footswitch if it doesn't have a battery? Thanks in advance to any or all who can/will help me.......Ok ...it is part 0050419000 I have been told it should work with my amp......I think it is DEAD...But still no one has answered my question does it need a stereo 1/4 cord or will mono work??????????

According to the schematic:
http://support.fender.com/schematics/gu ... ematic.pdf
The footswitch use an AC with a signal, negative for Drive and more drive and positive for channel selector (refer to TP20 and TP26). The footswitch is then specific to this model of amp. Did you buy the righ one or just a double switch to ground ?

+1

The footswitch must have the channeling diodes or neither function nor the LED's will operate.

I took the switch apart and found a loose connection between the female 1/4 jack and the circuit board. When played with both diodes lite up and the swithes woek perfect. I am going to try and resolder the connection myself. I bet this is why so any of these go bad fairly quickly.....they are also on ebay (used) for $24 used...Thanx for the help

Use your soldering iron sparingly. Those PC boards aren't very heat-tolerant. A 40-watt pencil works best.

Thanks for the tip Arjay..will do but I also backed up this plan with already buying one off ebay for $23 and change (including shipping). I am going to just take out the 1/4 female and add a radio shack one and see how it goes.....I think I'll end up with both working...but better two than none...right???

Talk about an easy fix......the first guide wire coming off the female jack had broken loose .....just a touch with the solder iron and it was fixed.....works perfect......thanks for the advice on going easy with the iron.......took less than five minutes (for iron to warm up) and zero dollars to fix.....Doesn't get any easier...Yahooooooooooo

Good to hear, SN!

Let the boy fix it himself next time -- never too early to learn soldering.

I believe the "channel" button selects between the clean channel and the drive/more drive channel.
