A few #8 machine-screws and some 3/4" fender washers are all that's required to affect a fix.

Try hooking up a Dr. Z Brake Lite or similar to that Deluxe, than you come back and talk about its tone.
Maybe you need to get obsessed about attenuators now. Then you can have any amp your money can pay!

the bad thing about attenuators is what they do to tone. some say that they rob tone.
they do but not in the way we think they do. they dont allow you to drive your speakers hard which is where the "tone robbing" comes into play. a lot of your tone is in the area where your speakers get driven hard.

but some situations require these attenuators and this could be one of them if nothing else.

I know about that speaker feel on attenuators. My Pro Jr came stock with that Eminence 30W ceramic.
But the Weber Signature AlNiCo 10S is 15W and now it works pretty hard even attenuated!
Sweet sounding tube overdrive, plus speaker sonic sense... at home levels... tone heaven!

I have yet to meet a DRRI with a proper bias setting from the factory.
a proper bias changes the whole game with that amp !!!
Makes it sing !!!!

I haven't seen any brand-new re-issues with an optimized idle-bias setting!

I don't really think ANY of Fender's whole lineup is properly biased out of the box. They are usually biased really cold, probably so the stock tubes last past their warranty period. Except for the Blues Jr which are biased just below the point of red plating. Go figure.

I guess you can see their point in cold bias, however most of us tube junkies just cant leave it alone, i'll bet they count on that too.
