Hi guys,

Anyone know which is a better amp:

Fender Super Champ XD
or
Fender Princeton Reverb reissue?

Both 15watts, tube, 10" speaker.

The Champ now has two channels and DSP which I don't need.

I guess I am wondering why the price difference? $300 for Champ vs $900 for Princeton.

Is it because the Princeton has real spring reverb as opposed to digital?

Is the clean channel of the Princeton better than the clean channel of the Champ?

I'm guessing the Princeton is made from better components hence the higher cost ?

Any info on those who own or have demoed these amps would be appreciated.

Thanks !

Lots of opinions out there, most of them diametrically opposed.

But I'm betting that you'd keep the PRRI much longer than you would the SCXD.

Yep without a doubt. The Princeton is worlds apart from the SCXD in terms of tone, components and build quality. The Super Champ is pretty cheaply made to meet a price point. DSP amps don't do it for me at all. But it's all a matter of taste, budget and needs. If you don't need the DSP I would recommend either the Princeton or better yet the DRRI or if that's out of your price range, an Egnater Tweaker is a fun, versatile, great sounding inexpensive option priced between the two. Any of the amps I mentioned will more than likely outlive a SCXD.

Two channels with separate EQ on the DRRI, a 12" speaker and 22 watts. The reverb is beautiful on the DRRI too. The DRRI is totally gigable, where you might have a little trouble getting over a drummer with both the Princeton and SCXD. I know some will disagree, but that's been my experience. I've played small gigs with a 74 Champ and a drummer, but our drummer is a total professional and can adjust his enthusiasm for almost any situation. of music you play.It just depends on the people you play with and the type

I doubt you'll be disappointed.

If you're a fan of the blackface tone and vibe, the DRRI is hard to beat. Many of us here own them and gig with them.
