I just got the Super-Sonic Twin 100w combo and it's clean channel has two voicings; Twin Reverb and Bassman. When I use pedals with the Bassman voicing they sound great but they hiss like crazy in the Twin Reverb voicing. Is this a true reflection of the original amps? Do the Bassmans handle pedals better than the Twin Reverbs?

Not in my 45+ years of experience of owning both types at various times.

Nope. A Twin is a Twin and a Bassman is a Bassman. Both incredible amps. I had my Twin for over 30 years and it was quiet as a mouse. The only noise came from the pedals themselves.
Seems like the whole SS series has some sort of hiss problem in one form or another. My advice is if you want a Twin or Bassman get one. I never found and amp that could combine two different platforms like Tweed and Blackface successfully.

UPDATE: I have determined that it was one paticular pedal which, for some reason, hisses when in the amp is in the Twin Reverb voicing. Luckily, it's a pedal that I don't consider "essential" (a Digitech EX-7). the essentials, tube screamer/compressor/etc. are not having a problem in any voicing or channel of the amp.
After spending more time with this amp, I don't believe it has a "hiss issue".

Great news! I'm glad you have one that doesn't hiss. I believe Fender has some sort of remedy for the ones that do.

Yer a box of matches and a tin of fuel

tried the sonic 22 in 2 shops, both models had a hiss at low volumes, which would bother people for recording, here they are chronic for it, it is how fender set them up, apparently they are biased cold, some guys have redone them warmer with good result's hiss wize and tone wize, fender warrant they tubes apparently, so they run them colder that normal, IE making them last longer, not sure how much of this is true in this case, but I know this, I would not buy a £1000 amp that had issues.

Me neither. Especially since most of them try to combine "clean" blackface and "dirty" tweed. Maybe the concept would work better if they tried to voice it more like tweed/blackface deluxe, or maybe bassman/super reverb.

It's the rather significant differences in pre-amp architecture that make these amps difficult to design and engineer. The tweeds all used cathode-follower tone stacks located farther "downstream" in the signal chain than the blackfaces, whose tone controls are all inserted between the first and second gain stages where distortion (both harmonic and IM) are less of a factor. Compounding that, the phase inverters operate differently between the two platforms -- a "cathodyne" type in the tweeds (usually with an adjustable NFL, ie: the presence control) and the now-common "long-tail" configuration for the blackfaces. I've seen custom builders pull these dual-mode amps off but only for a very hefty premium price a la the Dumbles and others.

The biggest hurdle may be the difference in dynamics. With a Tweed say the 5e3 for example, the herder your attack, the more natural distortion you get. Lighten up on the attack and it magically cleans up. You really need to practice with a Tweed to get the most out of it and really understand how dynamic it really is. Fender Blackface amps set the bar for clean tone.
