I recently bought a Vibrolux Reverb Custom. I think that everybody knows that the reverb on these is weak. It still had the stock tubes so I installed SED 6L6GC power tubes. 5 Tung Sol Gold 12AX7's. The reverb tube is a JJ premium tube. These tubes sound great, the amp sounds great. No hiss. Does anyone familiar with this amp know of anyone, or any DIY kits that would bring out the reverb. I'm being a perfectionist on this rig and the pedals as well. I'm about ready to buy a Fender '63 Stand Alone tube reverb. I'm not holding back on quality in any area. I really don't want to spend $650 or near that on ebay. I'm not familiar with how 'reverb pedals' sound. Perhaps there is a reverb pedal that emulates the Fender tube unit. Thanks.

I've got a Boss FDR-1 Deluxe Reverb pedal that I sometimes use and think it's pretty good. I would recommend going to GC and plugging the FDR-1 or other reverb pedal into a CVR with the reverb on the amp off. See which pedal you like and go from there. Too bad you have to buy a reverb pedal just to get good reverb on a Fender amp.

Has anyone played through a Blackstar tube reverb unit? It's hard to tell on you tube. Their delay is really nice but I couldn't really judge the reverb. I've gone this far with all new tubes and some excellent pedals. It seems a shame to always feel that my sound is always not what I want it to be. I use effects pedals for the occasional 'extra sound' but reverb is something that I always have on to some degree or another. If I go for the Fender '63 tube reverb I really will have a "baby Vibro King": and a diminished savings account.

Perhaps you should've bought a Vibroking to begin with......

I could never get past how noisy the VRC was. I had a 65 Vibrolux Reverb that was a great sounding amp and I was hoping to replace it with the Custom. Some creep stole my 65 after a gig in Philly.

Said creep should be emasculated then the "emasculatees" thrown into a Cuisinart set to 'puree', lest the miscreant be permitted to propagate and thus further contaminate our species' ever-degrading gene pool.

I've been pretty fortunate in that regard. I had a '67 Bassman head stolen from a gig during our pack-up back in '69 but I later recovered it. I've always been pretty cautious about my gear and I try to maintain some situational awareness of my environs at all times.

No hiss on a Vibrolux Reverb Custom???

I thought especially THIS amp is a noise-producer... congratulations then!

I used a Boss FDR-1 for a while but the reverb in it didn't cut it.

I highly recommend the Boss FRV-1 which is a simulation of the '63 Reverb Tank Unit. This little box sounds nearly similar to the tube reverb and looks nice ;-)

Have fun with your new amplifier!

TC Electronics just released a new Reverb pedal, the initial reviews are very good if you do a search and it sounds pretty good in front of a Pro Junior in the You-Tube clip on their product page.

http://www.tcelectronic.com/hall-of-fame.asp

I'd like to give one a try in front of my Tweed Deluxe when I want just a touch of reverb. Actually with the stereo-outs it might be a good way to run both my Tweeds together.

Might be worth a look.

After installing Tung-Sol Gold 12AX7's checked for low noise SED's in the power section the amp settled down. The reverb got a JJ Gold 12AT7 but is still unacceptable. There is considerable noise in the reverb section when turned up, so that's on "0". With reverb off it sounds like a normal Fender. I'm opting for a Fender '63 Reverb tank.
