I just decided, at the first service, the bright cap will be desoldered from the tech.

Hey !

My amp-tech had enough time to do the bright-cap mod on saturday within a heartbeat, so I didnt wait until the amps first service.

People ! with this bright cap desoldered, the DRRI is AWESOME !!! He also set the bia slightly hotter. Before the mod and bias adjustment he sounded like "milk"...now he sounds like "fat cream" !!!
The Vibro-Channel is still a tiny bit brighter than the Normal-Channel but not too much, but the harshness is totally gone in the vibro-channel

Totally awesome Amp now !

A bias check (and adjustment) is the kindest thing one can do for a new Fender amp.

Rawk on!

I picked my DRRI last weak & tested quite a few over-drive pedals since then. First off, the amp on clean with both channels sounds great... no problems & its the classic natural dirty breakup/distortion starting around 5-6 & up..that I love. I quickly found out that at lower volumes, some OD pedals sound like garbage! A horrible buzzing cheapo.. almost blown speaker sound. Many other people have posted the same issue & result with OD pedals, so its definitely not the weed.

The DRRI tubes are very sensitive to distortion & overdrive pedals. Some ODs make the amp sound like crap.. & a Buzzing crapy sound.. no matter what guitar. instead of a nice classic OD sound

In my opinion the best OD pedals for this amp are:
1. Fulltune Full-Drive 2 -absolutely the best!!!. but $150. the FD2 has a super wide clean & dirty range that sounds awesome with the amp..& no buzzing..& what a sound range diveristy!
2. Ibaneze TS9- a great classic rock/blues/ & the SRV sound..(a less bright sound) but good, because the amp is bright naturally.. about $80.
3. Boss DS-1- also great...but a sharper classic rock sound for $49.. noticeably brighter then the TS9.
4. Boss OD-1- my old petal from 1981 sounded also good...its close to the DS-1. I would of liked to have tried the OD-3 but didnt get around to it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I did not like the following petals with this amp:
1. Boss OS-2.. combo OD/distortion pedal. Horrible buzzy crap sound.
2. Fulltone OCD. A great pedal for other amps. Some claim it sounds great with the DRRI..But I thought its a little buzzy & distorted for the $..try the fulltone FD2 for almost the same $ first.
3. Boss-BD-2 Blues Driver. Way to buzzy. think about it, Its trying to replicate the beautiful bluesy classic tubes already in the amp. Sounded real crappy compared to the others i liked. TS-9 was a way better fit.. for that blues sound.

I hope this is helpfull & good luck!

Try the Visual Sound Route 66 with that amp. You'll get great compression and IMHO the best tubescreamer type pedal on the market. The Open Road is a great overdrive, different from the OD in the Route 66, but awesome as well. You can try all the others but I believe you'll find the Visual Sound tone is awesome and doesn't cost near as much as a lot of boutique pedals.

I agree that the V/S Route 66 is a very nice Comp Overdrive (I don't leave home without it), I use the Cmatmods Signa Drive for my OD, it is as close to noisless as you can get and has three options for clipping so you get the very best of three sounds.

These are hand made with the very best componants and they cost less than an OCD.

And no I have any attachment to the company, I just love the pedals.

I have yet to try it but Cmatmods has another OD that I have on my want list, its called Buttah as in Smooth Baby ! Just not a need at the moment, the signa drive has so many sounds and excellent adjustability so........

Do yourself a favor and check out his stuff !!!!

+ 1000 on a FullDrive! I also use an MXR Badass Mod OD to push it into sweet and creamy od.. with a telecaster + slide and a little tone rolled off.. WOW!
Side note... I have had my DRRI for 2 months (gig in an active band and use it almost every day for at least practice... just getiing into the sweet spot of the amp... I guess the speaker is broken in now because it is HEAVEN! the brittleness has gone and the sweet tone has taken its place.

I just replaced my Jenen C12K speaker with a Eminence Cannibis Rex 12" 50 watt. What a differance. This speaker sound great & handles Over Drive petals way better than the stock. The buzzy-fizzy sounds are now gone when using Od petals at lower volumes (under4) & this reduces the need for the bright cap Mod. I wish I tried this speaker much earlier. It should be the first mod & then a tube upgrade. They both will improve the sound while preserving a warm classic tone. Great speaker!

Emi's CR is a nice speaker -- it'll sound even tastier once it's fully broken in.
