My 12ay7s came in the mail today. It's a Tung-Sol NOS. I like the sound of this better to the 12ax7. Really enjoying this amp. Hope to replace the speakers shortly.

I think I'll pair this with my 1965 Vox Cambridge Reverb for a stereo rig for my gigs.

Looks like a great amp.

Nice plan on running the stereo rig, I've decided I'm going to try running my two 5e3's daisy-chained, it won't be stereo but I think it will sound pretty darn good (also BIG and FAT!). 8)

Snowy

I'm sure it will sound killing! Nice avatar. How do I make one myself? I tried but the CP told me Avatar's are disallowed? what?

Nice score! I agree. Installing a 12AY7 in the V1 position will clean it up considerably. I personally like how clean it sounds with all 12AY7s and using a tube screamer. When cranked, you get nothing but power tube distortion, but at those levels, at least on my 18W amp, it's too loud.

Snowy and myself, have built TubeDepot.com's 5E3.

http://www.tubedepot.com/kit-tweeddeluxe.html

Great sounding amp with plenty of headroom. Snowy's latest build is 90% like mine internally using orange caps, sprague atoms, F&T caps, ohmite brown devil resistor and a Texas Heat speaker. I used metal film resistors and an orange cap on the tone pots.

I'm sure their kit, as is, sounds great. You can easily upgrade the parts to match your current 5E3 using sprague atoms and Mallory 150's by giving the guys at TD a call. You can even spring for different caps and even cap value's in the preamp to get a different toned / voiced amp.

I've been thinking about building an amp kit such as this. But somehow, I always end up just finding a vintage amp and then enjoying troubleshooting and restoring it to its former glory.

A 5E3 or maybe a Marshall 18w kits will be fun.

I reckon this kit would scratch that 18watt marshall itch pretty well.

It's very rewarding to build a great sounding amp and totally addictive.

Snowy.

Looks good. Have you tried Weber amp kits? I might give it a go soon.

I haven't tried the Weber kits so can't comment on those, but I can highly recommend the Tube Depot kits, quality parts and well thought out, the guys there are also great to deal with and they support their kits with thorough documentation and some kits such as the 18watt kit linked in my previous post even have accompanying videos. Rob Hull the amp tech at The Tube Depot is only an email away and takes a personal interest in your build, to the point of requesting photos if you have them to share.

I really value that kind of support. 8)

Nice. I've bought many parts and tubes from them in the past. Sounds like they have a great customer care going on.

Just used this 57 deluxe at a gig at the Blue Note. In stereo with my fav Vox Cambridge Reverb. I gotta say, this was the best sound I've had on stage in ages. Worked out great and the gig was super. So, thanks to Martin Moon for hooking me up with the amp.

jazzgene, sounds great, as a matter of interest, how did you run the rig stereo?

I'm considering the same type of thing using the stereo outs on my TC Electronics Reverb pedal set for adding just a touch of ambience to my two Tweed Deluxes.

I use a Lexicon LXP-1 and whatever pedals that may be needed for the music. I've used mixes of other amps including other vintage fenders but I like the tone of the Vox CR and 57 Deluxe the best so far.
