My 1st impression is positive overall. The speaker didn't do it for me. Quite loud and I might try a 12ay7 instead of the 12ax7. Using 2 in stereo will be perfect for my upcoming Blue Note gig here in NYC.

The amp has an interesting history as it was a gift from Fender Custom Shop executive to a musician named Moon Martin of Robert Palmer's group. Apparently, it was hand picked as being of exceptional quality and build and was gifted to this artist.

Photos to follow.

I need to take the bias reading and possibly swap out the 6v6 tubes. It still has the original Fender Groove Tubes Electro Harmonix tubes in the amp. I think the amp is early 2007 but the speaker code is week 17 of 2006.

What speaker was in it, JG -- a re-issue P12Q?

Congrats on a nice model amp. 8)

Definitely try a 12AY7 in V1 you'll have some more headroom and it just sounds better (does to me anyway).

Same story here,I think we discussed the speaker in another thread...it has a brittle sound to me even after breaking in...so I used a Weber 12A125.
The 12AX7 put too much grit into the amp so I put in a NOS 12AY7 and RCA 6V6s and like it alot better...the amp will overdrive easily anyway, but experiment with the volume knobs on the channel you're not using also, they're interactive...but you probably already know that.
All in all,the 5E3 is a great amp...enjoy!

Yes. A Jensen P12Q reissue. The sound is a bit sterile and brittle. I've used Webers on some of my other amps and probably will go with that.

Yup. Too much grit with a 12ax7 to my ears. I'm thinking of ordering the 12A125A. By the way, do the different iterations of the 12a125s really make much of a tonal difference? I prefer a darker tone as I play jazz.

The Weber will surely put a smile on your face.

I used the 12A150 25 watt no dope on my 5E3

Awesome warm tones !!!

The 12A125 might be a bit bright for your style ????

I gave the electronics a once over today. Noticed on the rectifier, it has diodes on the plates (pin 4 and 6). What is that? I know the original 5E3 doesn't call for this.

The inside is quite pristine. Looks like the previous owner never gigged with it. The pots show early 2007. I think 2007 is the 1st year of the 57 Deluxe Reissue?

The amp is dissipating 13w / tube. 350vdc on the plates and about 38ma. I swapped out the 12ax7s with some NOS and the 6v6, I installed matched RCAs. Amp sounds quite good even with the Jensen P12Q reissue but I'll have to get that fixed.

How do I post photos? Must I get it hosted on some other site that requires yet another registration and a password?

Yeah, the RI Deluxe is not exactly like the original 5E3 in some small ways....I'm sure you saw some other stuff in there.
Yep,you have to use a photo hosting site elsewhere,I use Photo bucket or something like that...one of our forum members posted a good thread on how to put pics up here,I'll find that.
here ya go...viewtopic.php?f=2&t=52777&hilit=how+to+post+pictures

I think those diodes (D1, D2) are present to isolate the rectifier tube and prevent HV "slap-back" whenever the amp is put into standby mode, thus extending the life of the tube. Likely they have no effect on the amp's tone.

If the 12A150 is indeed darker than 12A125, I might go for that. I haven't had the chance to compare them so can't say. The 12A125 is closer to the P12Q, I suppose.
