so my chilean friend just lent me his Fender Hot Rod Deville 212 amp to play at a gig this friday. the only problem is that it is a Chilean amp! meaning... it has the chilean plug and we believe it is wired for a completely different electrical system then the US's. First off, is this true? and if it is true how do can i plug in this amp with out frying the $@!& out of it. on the back of the amp theres something about INPUT POWER: 230V-50Hz and then below that it says 180W WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN I JUST WANNA PLUG IN AND MELT MINDS!

not even the damn manual says anything about it

Hi tinysmall2002,

Check the schematic for the different voltage connections of the power transformer. You can reconnect for different voltage inputs, and you will probably also have to change the plug (I'm not familiar with which plugs and outlets that they use in Chile). You may want to change the transformer to a US version if it has the export transformer installed now (you'll probably still have to change the plug). The 180 watts is power consumption, the output is 60 watts.

I have 3 European amps and have rewired the transformers for 110 USA volts. Changed the plug end and, using the schematic, wired it to work on 110. The larger export amps have transformers that are capable of use in many countries and many different voltages. USA domestic amps do not generally use these transformrs.
