New VCXD sounds great - but seems to be a bit noisey. Can I ask if any other VCXD/SCXD owners can hear a very audible hum with nothing plugged in and the volumes on zero?

I have a VCXD and don't have that problem. The only time I get unwanted noise is when it's too close to the TV.

I have the same issue. Not sure if it's "normal." Can anyone else chime on their experience with Vibro Champ XD hum? I'm not terribly bothered by it, but it would be good to know what to expect.

You could get some hum if the amp isn't earthed or if it's too close to any electric device like a TV or an neon lamp.

The Vibrochamp XD is a single-ended tube amp (only one power tube, 6V6 in this cse). Single-ended tube amps are all prone to 60 cycle hum. Push-pull amps with 2 or 4 power tubes cancel out this hum. I'm talking about the kind of background hum wth no guitar plugged in that is quiet and stays the same volume no matter where the volume knob is set.

The Champs I've had and played would hum more or less depending on where they were used. My house must have crappy wiring because they hum a lot there.

My experience with the Ebtech Hum X is that it's forte is the elimination of ground loops between equipment and the wall outlet ground noise. I've used them with success in PA set ups with seperate house and monitor amps. I also use it(sometimes) with my stand alone reverb unit and amp. I built a Weber 5G15 unit with my own hybrid ground design, with the emphasis on quiet operation. It works quite well, but if I record, I'll throw in the Hum X and it's dead quiet. Art

Ahhh dead quiet that would be nice...the VCXD i have sometimes sounds like a refrigerator. a quiet refrigerator but a frige nonetheless. my home is old and i am sure the wiring doesnt help so maybe an hum X is in my future. the vox da5 solid state amp i have is indeed dead quiet

Many amps will have some hum when the gain is maxed out or in the case of the XD line, the high gain amp models are selected. Does the problem follow with each amp model you select?

my VCXD hums as soon as it warms up and is ready to play. it doesnt matter: where any of the dials are set, if my guitar is plugged in or not, what outlet i use in my house. it is so bothersome to me that i am willing to spend $57 to quiet a $200 amp. i like this amp, i just want it to be quiet.

Might be a warrenty issue. You could always check the grounding wire as well as the tubes and speaker connection.... Other then that, it might be a good idea to have a pro look at it. My SCXD doesn't do that at all.... Not much of a difference between the two amps.

Yes there is much of a difference between the SCXD and VCXD. The VCXD is a single ended amp (1 power tube) and the SCXD is push-pull with 2 power tubes that help cancel out 60 cycle hum.

Then again, if jay and rico are experiencing louder than normal hum in their VCXD's then yes a pro should definately check it out. It could be cheap filter caps that are failing. Or take the amp into a guitar store and compare the hum side by side with new ones on the shelf.
