I started having one of my input jacks cut in and out a while back and last night the other started doing the same thing. I also heard a popping noise when I went to turn the amp off. This was the first time I've heard this noise. I've always heard that these amps are no-torius for cheap input jacks. Does this sound like a possibility and any idea what it should cost (ball park figure) to have a new set of Switchcraft jacks installed in one of these amps?

If you know how to solder and have some experience working with PCB-type amps, you can easily do this yourself for the price of the jacks. About forty bucks ought to cover the damages (if you intend to replace the effects-loop and footswitch jacks as well).

Yeah, I've used a soldering iron before but never on an amp. You're right, the ones for the effects loop should be done at the same time. I think I need to try to find a schematic for my amp.

Thanks Rock Star. The help is greatly appreciated! This is the first trouble I've had with my DeVille and I really like the amp. I see you list your location as Tombstone Territory. Is that as in Tombstone, Arizona? If so, I live up the road to the north a piece.

Don't know if there are any differences with the schematic Arjay linked to, but the schematic found right here on the Fender site is a later revision:

http://support.fender.com/schematics/gu ... ematic.pdf

Also, I believe the jacks that Fender uses are plastic encased and grounded to the PCB and insulated from the front panel, requiring the use of an insulating washer between a Switchcraft type metal jack and front panel.

Thanks Bill and Arjay! I had read somewhere else that the jacks were grounded to the board. I'll spend some time this weekend looking into this. Practiced for an hour and a half last night and had no cutting out at all. Go figure. The fact that the thing has plastic jacks that are original needs to be rectified no matter what. I thank you both again for your help. Arjay, I live north of Tucson in Casa Grande.

There's somebody up there in CG that's always selling guitars and amps on C/L, some of it pretty nice too -- you know him?

I'll have to check it out and see if I know who it is. I'll let you know, Arjay.

I was just curious.

I once saw a early '60s blonde Twin Amp on C/L that somebody in CG was selling for a song. Like for a grand or mebbe $1200. A little on the rough side but I could've saved it. I prolly should've jumped on it.

There is evidentally a collector here in the CG area. I deal a lot with the local music store here, the owner is one of the greatest guitar players I've ever seen in my 60 years, and a lot of the stuff Noel has on his walls for sale are on consignment from this guy. I've been looking for a MIA tele and he told me he would contact this guy and see what he had. Never have seen anybody play locally with the amp you described. That would have been a sweet deal.

IIRC, the person listing it had said that he wasn't a guitarist but the amp had been inherited from his dad or some other relative. The seller wasn't even sure if it worked or not. It was beat to crap but with a little TLC from the right person that 6G8 would've been a swell player or a nice addition to somebody's collection. If I hadn't already been knee-deep in negotiations for a blackface Vibroverb from a guy up in Surprise I would've been on it like white on rice. Oh well......

That one wasn't meant to be. When you get one like that staring you in the face it's hard to pass it up. I usually get in my truck, drive a few miles down the road and sit and think about it for a bit. Sometimes I drive on home but most times I'll turn around and end up with a new toy. Luckily I haven't been sorry to many times.

LOLOL

I usually go out to the man-cave and do some sanding on a speaker cabinet or something. Helps to clear my head......and mentally tote up the number of shoes she's got stashed in the closet. As long as it's fifty pairs or greater, I'm safe bringing a new toy home.
