You know I have got to be feeling better and my recovery going well if I'm getting GAS!!

I'm GASing for a decent Fender Tube Amp Combo. 30+ watts. I want something basic. 2 channels with separate controls for each. Standby switch would be nice. Not fond of built in fx or fx loops, but I would make it work.
My price range is about $500 - $600 so I'll probably go with used.

Suggestions?
Recommendations?
Experiences?
HELP!!!!

Chet glad to hear you are on the mend...getting GAS is a good sign for sure...might I recommend a Deluxe Reverb II? About the right wattage, solid built, has a solid tone, two channels with controls for each...it does have an effects loop but if I remember right if not used is outside the circuit...maybe Arjay or someone else can tells us the technical highlights.

FWIW

Stay away from "disposable" amps and grab yourself a used DRRI.

I've seen clean examples on the Sacramento/Stockton/Bay Area C/L going for close to your target price.

Glad you're feeling better!

If size is an issue for you I would go with a DRRI, even if it's 22 W, with the right speaker it can be very loud and keep up with most 30 W amps.

IMO you should avoid all Hot Rods, tone and reliability ain't all that... so you're not left with much in that price range.

You can pick up a nice 70s Pro Reverb for about $700 or even a 70's Super Reverb, if size and weight are not an issue.

Another option is to go for a Bandmaster head, even a late 60s can be had for $500-600, but you'll need a cab and you won't have reverb, but the tone is a sweet vintage Fender tone that you won't find in any of today's amps.

If you can get beyond the raspberry gummy-bear knobs and the gray argyle-sock grill cloth, they're not bad amps. Very heavy though -- like all permutaions of the "Fender Twin" amp.

Hey Chet
Glad to see ya here in Amp Land !

I just got a 65 Twin Reverb RI and after a bit of trouble, I know have Huge tone and power and I have way less than your target price into it.

I see tons of silver face twins on C/L here in hoosier land for 700 to 900 that look pretty sweet too.

For a lightweight "real" fender ya can't beat the DRRI if 22 watts is enough.
Not near the pure clean muscle of my twin, bouncy butt kick'n power !!!!

I was lucky monitoring Guitar Center's Used Gear tab last summer, and had a choice of 2 DRRI in the LA area at one time. One for $650 and the other for $700. The $650 had some mileage on the body, but I like that (like old pick-em-up trucks: the more dings you have, the more dings you can get). I found that GCUG was always about $50 to $100 more than Craig's List. BUT, they warranty the amp for 3 months. (you can buy an extended). Seemed a safer buy to me. One extra downside: you pay taxes too (at least in CA).
