Okay, so I was wanting some advice on what would be a great speaker to replace the OEM speakers in a 1986 Fender The Twin.

I only use the amp for cleans and get all my OD sounds from pedals etc so I'm really wanting to liven it up a bit and give the tone a little more vintage sparkle.

Also, I find that the OEM speakers are very directional, in that when I'm on stage I can struggling to hear the amp but it's actually too loud out in the audience due to the fact that I've not been able to place it directly behind me due to stage layout etc.

I was thinking of getting a 2x12" extension cabinet to try and help with this (as well as just looking cool with the amp stacked on top of it lol) and so will need to decide what speakers to put in this even if I leave the originals in the amp.

For "vintage sparkle" I assume you mean traditional blackface Fender cleans. In that case, I'd recommend a pair of Weber California 12's. They're beefy enough to handle a substantial amount of power and they sound very punchy and articulate, whether reproducing cleans or pedal-driven grit.

+1

However, that's not what the O/P is interested in.

He's looking for "vintage sparkle".

The V-30 is skosh weak in that department.

Not that I dislike them -- to the contrary. I use a pair with a '66 Bandmaster. For my purposes they're great.

True, but it's a good all-around speaker for general use where a modern punchy tone is desired. I'm not sure how the new chicom versions sound but my Ipswitch-made pair from the early '80s is great for that ballsy in-yer-face vibe.
