Well first of all it needs tubes no matter what! I would get a clean sounding all tube amp and then throw on a blues driver or a tube screamer pedal on top. Then get whatever other pedals I needed. If price isnt a problem I would go with a boutique amp like divided by 13 or Mesa-Boogie.

Hmmm
Well 1st - It's gotta be all Solid State, or SS for short.
Then 2nd - It's gotta be all Tube.
Then 3rd - You can switch "1st" and "2nd" around if you like.
But 4th (and most important of all) - It's gotta sound good to you, and work for you.

Between the Deluxe and the Blues Junior I would go for the Deluxe.

I love the Blues Junior but it's a bit quiet for me.......

The Hot Rod Deluxe is waayy loud enough and a lovely amp. IT;s what you prefer though. I'm with Samuel though, nice clean tube amp and a good driver pedal.

Importantly though, when you go to look in the stores, take your guitar with you and have a good long shot of the amps.

There's an succinct-and-direct inverse correlative relationship between the age of an amp and how long it stays in the buyer's possession.

Half the fun is searching the options.

Try a bunch.

A DRRI or an Egnater Rebel 20. Just do searchers on this and other forums on the HRD series amps. A DRRI doesn't need to be modded to sound great and is really reliable for a current production amp as are pretty much all the Reissues. They're just built better.

So true....

Think about a SF Deluxe Reverb or used DRRI. The DRRI sounds much better clean or woth a pedal than any of the Hot Rod series amps I tried.

You can get a DRRI new for a little under a grand. They must have dropped the price a little.

definitely considering the DRRI the hot rod deluxe and the blues junior. wide range of prices there will go in and try them all out. leaning towards the DRRI but it will depend on what i have for cash at the time.

Taylor, just a heads up. The DRRI is pretty much built for the long haul. My HRDlx lasted three months and went downhill from there. I'm not trying to start yet another HRD argument, I have seen the same problems time and time again. I can't vouch for the HRD III Series. IMO the DRRI sounds so much better, is designed better, and has better components including the cabinet. I switched to Egnater after being a loyal Fender amp guy for over 40 years. I think that in itself speaks volumes. If you plan to do any serious gigging, and rely on your equipment I'd go for the DRRI. The drive channels in the HRD series amps are pretty much useless anyway.

There are plenty of stompboxes that can perform the "drive" and "more drive" functions much more transparently than the channel-switching HRD, and with far less hiss and fizz.

Start with a sturdy and reliable amp platform and go from there.
