I am looking to replace the stock 10" Jensen speaker. I have already changed the tubes and the OT to a Allen TO20. What would be the best replacement speaker? Thanks.

Well, I have two PR's. A BF (AB764) and a SF (AA1169)... the SF has a Weber 10A125-20 watt alnico (no doping). And the BF is getting a Weber 10F150T-50 watt ceramic (no doping).

Both have a big tone. Alnico a bit warmer. From what I hear the 10F150T ceramic is a monster 10-incher. Big tone, late break-up. Kinda the way I like PR's to sound. For these amps I like the 6V6GT's compression and crunch to dominate the tone. Good 6V6GT just have this great range of tones. So, I try to keep the front end not too aggressive. And the speakers with little self-breakup. And let the power tubes sing.

I've also put PR into cabs with 12-inch speakers. The one with a Celestion Gold Alnico 50watt is finally breaking in (3 months after installation). Warm tone. Rounder bass than the Weber equivalent. The other got a Weber 12A150A-50 watt. This is the one sounding prolly closest to orignal Jensen P12N speaker. That Weber has a great tone. Can be warm or powerful as all get out. Just by twirling knobs, pickups, boxes, and playing styles.

I have already considered a Weber 10F150T-50 watt for my 65 princeton Reverb Re-Issue. It is a bit of a hassel to ship Canada. Are there any other suggestions from maybe a larger company. I am looking for a very similar sound with a better speaker.

What was your issue with OEM output tranny?

Low E was farting out at lower volumes with a new Les Paul Standard. Not an issue with a Strat. I tend to play at lower volumes as I only play at home.

I am surprised that you get low E-string "farting outs" at home/bedroom levels.
I also have a PRRI (stock except NOS tubes) and the bass response is very good and firm at least up until 4 or 5 and then this little thing is friggin loud in a bedroom!!

The stock speaker is pretty good IMHO (especially after it's broken in), I am sure there a better ones depending on ones taste, but I think the speaker and the original transformer are not the reason for your problem.
Can you describe your issue a little more detailed?

I have replaced the stock Jensen in my PRRI with a G-10 40Watt Celestion Gold with very good results. This speaker had more depth than the stock Jensen and compressed the highs for more of a singing tone rather than the "shrill" of the stock Jensen. I am also satisfied with the low end and mid tonal qualities that have added more demension to the overall sound.
I also experimented with my other PRRI and added a 12" Celestion Blue 15Watt, this required diassembly and cutting of the baffle board but after 3 hours it was worth the sweat. Still if you want to do a drop in the Celestion G-10 is a good choice given a little "break-in" time.
Good Luck

My experience with "farting" tone on low notes usually isn't a power tranny (at least not completely PT issues).

First off: how old are those power tubes? And do they hold a good bias (don't drift around, at idle)?

Second: How old are the power supply caps and associated power resistors?

Third: The cabinet is SOLID, right? No damage? Esp on the sounding board that holds the speaker.

Fourth: How old is the phase inverter tube? You may not be getting enough voltage swing to drive the power tubes, on low notes---with a tired PI. Or driving the PI into saturation too early, if the setup (resitors and caps) around it is going way outta specs or leaking DC. And that will give your amp that funky cutting out tone. Almost like too early clipping tone.

Five: Have you tried hooking the amp to an external cab, that you know works well with bass notes? If this sounds fine---it's the speaker or its setup in your amp.

Six: If all of the above don't isolate the issue. Then, start looking at POWER TRANNY, as well as the output tranny. Check voltages on the amp (per nominal values on the schemo).

Check out these before taking a real axe to the amp. Good luck! :D

The Celestion G10 Gold is a very good speaker (as is their companion 12"). The alnico structure yields the classic compression that a vintage Fender amp is traditionally known for. As upgrades go, this is one of the best mods around.
