Hi todlakov,

Are you switching to standby first before turning off?

It's the main filter caps.It should be normal.they are powered before the stand by switch

Actually I'd consider it to be "not abnormal".

Some amps produce this "thump" -- some do not. And I include now-vintage amps when they were brand new back in the '60s and '70s.

Well there are "thumps" and there are "THUMPS".
Mine is more of "thump" and I consider it normal discharge of the capacitors.
Does it after setting Standby off and then Power.

I hear similar "thump" with my audio surround system.

+1

My stereo amp (Pioneer VSX5000 AVR) shuts down silently but switching my C-V 15-inch powered sub off produces a slight audible thump. It's been that way for the nine years I've owned it so I suppose it's a normal characteristic of the amp.

I remember my old 65 Twin Reverb doing a thump when turned on and a "thump" when shut down. Band mate also had a Twin that had the same thumps. My current 69 Bassman does it also, although not quite as pronounced.

With power off, may want to try contact cleaner on the standby switch. Just a little spray. I use Caig De-Oxit D5. There are several good brands. Try to buy one that is ok to use on potentiometers, too.

Good luck!

Try putting on standby and then hitting stings until sound dissipates then turn off.

Actually, I don't think the OP thought the sound was objectionable. Just worried that something was not operating properly. I kinda like the thump. POWER!!!

I never gave it much thought one way or the other. Unless the "thump" were accompanied by a visible arc and the pungent smell of ozone or an incinerated zener.

Then I knew I was in trouble!
