Thinking of shooting this bugger for the V1:

RCA 7025 12AX7 NOS
Tested this on Sencore Mighty Mite VII to have emissions of 116/117
http://cgi.ebay.com/RCA-7025-12AX7A-12AX7-ECC83-Amp-Audio-Vacuum-Tube-/110681127330?pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item19c51bf9a2

Will this be a better option, or the JAN-Philips 12AX7WA is better ? Or even maybe a TAD 7025-S / 12AX7.

And still I´m auctioning on ebay a pair of those MULLARD ECC83/12AX7 {MATCH PAIR & CODES} BLACKBURN

For the V2, I´m thinking Tung-Sol 12AX7 Balanced.

Tube freaks, show your thoughts!

Keep in mind that already on the way a Matched Pair of Telam EL84´s.

Thanks!

This thread has gone on for a week and 5 pages. We're talking about speakers and tubes for a $400 Pro Jr, not a vintage 57 Twin. You've gotten a number of excellent recommendations from some of the best amp experts in this forum. It's time to quit cutting bait and go fishing. Buy some tubes and listen to what they sound like. Only you can decide if they are what you really want.

Sorry to take your time mate. The thing is that it can get quite expansive to buying numerous kinds of tubes and shipping them to Brazil. That´s why I wanted to have some of the knowlewge of you guys for this matter.

I´ve already bought a NOS TELAM MATCHED EL84´s, and the speaker I´m preety much ligheted of what I want now, I´m torns on the V1 for what do get. If I pay $50 for a tube, when it gets here in Brazil, It would cost me total of $100 bucks with taxes/duties.

Yes, if I were living in the US, I would have already bought a few variations/brands of tubes to see what I like.

All in all, I just wanted to know about your favorite V1 tubes for your fender amps, RCA7025, MULLARDS, TAD7025S, JANs, or a sweet suggestion in the $40buck range tops.

In fact my $400 bucks ProJr is the most expansive amp that I could have... Maybe someday I can afford a better amp... but for now that´s all I can afford. Sorry to disapoint you mate.

It makes no difference who recommends what. You have picked a topic that is extremely subjective. What it boils down to you will only get so much out of that little amp. The components aren't that great. And the build quality isn't great either. (You guy's saw this coming didn't you ) I bet you would have done better with a simple extension cabinet and a decent speaker. I think the tiny cabinet really holds back the tone of the Pro Jr. I've head some sound great stock but run through a decent 1x12 or 2x12 cab.

Personally, I wouldn't sink that much money into any $400 amp unless It was a great deal on something vintage. I would have started with the speaker, and given it time to break in. Then see how it goes. I would only do one thing at a time. I think I already suggested that. I'm not sure, I'm a geezer and did some serious brain cell damage during the 70's and 80's.

Good luck with your choices.

Thanks 63supro. I just wanted you guys to know that maybe for you my amp isnt a great piece of a rig, but for me this simple ProJr is pretty much special.

Yes, I took your advice earlier, one thing at a time, I will leave the speaker upgrade for a later on, and now Im focused on tubes. I dont see that much that I´m spending on this, until now only $35 bucks for the pair of Telam EL84´s, witch I find Ive paid very cheap.

Now I´m searching for something to shine my V1, on the same budget 30-40 bucks. Since I dont care about the sound of the Sovtek 12AX7WC that came stock.

I´ll go on with my journey, researching more about tubes and its history, brands, models and reviews. Am I obsessed ? Yes, but I like to learn all about something, before I buy.

Again, it can get expansive for me buying stuff and sending to Brazil. I must be sure of what I want first.

Thanks for all your support.
JK

I think you are missing the point of what people are saying. No one is saying that your amp choice isn't a great amp for you. But everyone has favorites among tubes. I like JJs and Philips JAN 5751s. Others prefer something different. What sounds "sweet" to me may sound harsh and biting to you. In the past week you have been provided with a laundry list of tube recommendations. Until you actually buy some tubes you will never know what you actually prefer. Hell, you may find that to your ear, the EL84s you bought sound like crap in your amp. Then where are you? There is nothing we can do about the cost of tubes where you live. But until you actually hear what they sound like, you could continue forever in your quest for "perfect tone" (Which in my opinion, does not really exist. All tone is subjective and a compromise.). Buy some tubes and start playing your guitar and listening.

Thanks for the input bluesky. What I´m really interested is the theory of how the whole thing works. As you can see I´m pretty much newbie to tubes. Let me put this another way. I was told that the stock sovteks/gts that came with my ProJr are not that great, in fact I have some noise issues with it, so I just want to have nicer tubes in it, yes you guys have helped me recommending some nice stuff, that helped clarifying what I´m really after.
Now I´m only doubtfull between a TungSol Reissue to the V1 or this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110681127330&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I heard a lot of good stuff about this tube, and I´ve found it for a reasonable price. I would like you guys to tell me that this is the real thing RCA 7025 NOS, or should I just pass it away cause it´s too used or another reason I cannot tell just judging by the pictures and specs described on the auction.

I would like to have an answer from you tube expert guys saying "Get that RCA it´s tha bomb!" or "You´d better off with the TungSol Reissue, that RCA looks strange."

joaokorb,

Good luck. I hope you will soon find the tube and tone that you are seeking.
