If I were you, I'd start looking at lower wattage amps. Seems like you'll be putting quite a bit of money into a $400 amp. If you add the Mini Mass to the rest of your purchases, you'll be around $245. You're getting near 70's SF Champ territory. That could be another option. You can get a VHT Special Six which is a 6 watt hand wired amp for less. It also has a half power mode. Another friend of mine has one and I think it sounds great.
Most attenuators suck tone to some degree, the Mini Mass somewhat less. I sent my Mini Mass back. Also be aware that if you run your amp flat out with an attenuator, it's still hard on the power tubes just like if you ran the amp flat out without one.

I doubt if it's stock. He is the poster boy for Fender. He even hangs a Fender banner at some of his smaller gigs like the Iridium Jazz Club.
He did a lot of his Emotion and Commotion CD with an old 50's Tweed Champ according to his last GP interview and some with his Marshalls.

I wouldn't bet the ranch on that.

And celebrity endorsements do not carry the weight they once did.

It has crossed my mind on a lower wattage amp, but I cant afford shipping costs to Brazil. So my best shot is to tam down this little monster ProJr is.
What I do so far so I can play this bugger at home, I set the volume to 5 to get a little more dynamics from it, and I control the volume with the POD HD like a master volume. But I loose a lot of tone from the amp by doing this, so then I got the idea on modding it by a lower wattage speaker and other tubes.

This speaker has crossed my browser window, and called my attention. Is it as good as it costs ? Or the 40bucks Weber is still better ?

After reading some bad reviews about those JJ´s EL844´s, I heard some nice stuff about those:

I´ve ran into those tungsols as well:

Now I guess I´m off the JJ hype. I´m looking forward the Electro-Harmonix or Mullard for EL84´s... What do you think ?
And I guess the bang for the buck 12AX7 are the Tung-sols anyway.
Now I kept thinking about the Weber Signature Alnico 10 or 10S. The non-S model is "early-breakup", but how early I think? I want to have nice cleans on low volumes yet, but when get past 3 or 4 I want it to get driven... I´m guessing non-S model then, am I right ? And it would be a real improvement over the stock Fender Special Design Eminence 30W ? I saw those on ebay for about $50, 10 more than the upgrade weber alnico I intend.

Now you guys have given me an idea.

A friend of mine is on a similar quest for some low volume Tone and wants me to help him build a 5 watt Champ. So I'm thinking how about this little 5 watt Tone Monster, just the chassis, minus cab and speaker:
http://tubedepot.com/kit-tweedchamp.html

Built into this cab with a 12" speaker:
http://www.tonedog.com/pro_junior_1x12_upgrade.html

That should deliver up a somewhat unique little hand-built amp with some real nice tone at relatively low volumes methinks. 8)

+2 For JJ's I always dealt with Eurotube. Bob's a good guy.

No hype with JJ's except maybe the EL844. I never tried them. I think it would mess up the balance of my Egnater. It's built to run two EL84's and two 6V6 power tubes. It's a shame because I bet the versatility of dialing down fro 20 to 1 watt and the tube mix would probably give you what your looking for. JJ's IMO are some of the best modern production tube out there.

Nothing wrong about the JJEL84, it´s just that I´ve read lots of bad reviews on the JJEL844´s, and heard so much good stuff about the Mullards EL84´s... I bet they would sound heaven along with a pair of Tung-sol 12AX7 dont ya think ?

I got a question, maybe stupid, but I really can´t figure what would sound. I´m looking at this speaker:

Weber Vintage Series 10A125

I have the option of choosing between 20W and 30W for it. Or let´s think as well as the Signature Series 15W. My stock Eminence speaker is 30W. What would make a difference downgrading in Watts the speaker ? For example, would I get loads of speaker bark when I get past volume 5 with a 15W speaker ? It would be a bad thing ? Should I stick with the 30W range, independent of the speaker model I choose?
Thanks mates!

NOS Telam EL84 Matched Pair
NOS Sylvania ECC83/12AX7A/7025 Pair

What do you guys think for this tube upgrade ? I only have heard good stuff about them.

Stop obsessing over speaker power ratings. Any 20 to 30 watt speaker should be fine. If your intent is to reduce the output level of your amp to more manageable levels, you need to look at speaker efficiency/sensitivity. Many guitar amp speakers have an efficiency/sensitivity of 100 dB sound pressure level or more for a 1 watt input measured with a dB meter at about 1 meter. Look for a less efficient speaker. Find out what the Weber efficiency is (e-mail them and ask). As an example (and only an example) here are a few speakers under 100 dB efficiency:

http://www.eminence.com/speakers/speake ... elta_Demon (97 dB)

http://jensentone.com/p10r.php (95 dB)

http://professional.celestion.com/guita ... .asp?ID=33 (95 dB)

All would make a slight but noticable reduction in output sound levels.
