So, I've decided that the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III is the amp I want, but how long do I have to wait before Fender releases the Deluxe III in a color other than black and grey? I will buy one as soon as red or tweed is available. Anyone know how long it will be?

It's always possible that FMIC will release a limited-edition amp model (they've done so many times in the past) but it's probably more likely that they'll first do an "FSR" version for some specific retailer such as Sam Ash, Guitar Center, and the like. The FSR's could be anything -- from tweed linen to blonde or brown Tolex, or even some exotic snake-skin covering. The FSR's are generally cosmetic variations only. If you wait for a true LE from Fender, that version might include an upgraded speaker and/or other special features to hallmark and distinguish the amp from it's garden-variety bretheren.

Considering that the Series III was just recently released, you could be waiting a long time. Buy the amp for its tone. You can always have it recovered in another color.

I agree, it will probably take until the sales of the standard model starts to slow down. & because the iii is a revamped model, it may be a while.

Thanks for the posts. I appreciate it. But since someone at Fender will likely read these posts from time to time, here's my two bits: Great amps, but it is pretty retarded that Fender won't provide amps in alternate coverings when there is clearly a market for it!!! Lame business practices (IMO).

FYI - I'm not a stage player. I want it for my home. Black and grey is not the most attractive option.

Where?

You're one guy, at least thus far.

FMIC probably needs orders for 500 or a 1000 units before they'll produce any LE's or FSR's.

They listen to $$$.

Just as with any other billion-dollar conglomerate.

And rightly so, IMO.

Didn't the older versions have a run that included the blonde, red, surf green? I might be thinking of the blues jr. too...

the deluxe III is a great amp too make sure to post some pics when you get it.

What you could do is redecorate your room to match your amp... Maybe some Tolex wallpaper...

Are you buying an amp or furniture?? "black and grey" is a classic Fender look, maybe you need to find a nice boutique amp... or you can have a custom cab built for your new HRD, any color combo you want, there are plenty of cab builders out there that build great cabs.

Yep, the last version of the HRDlx had all kinds of colors. The only difference between the standard ans LE was cosmetics and a speaker. None of the reliability issues were addressed. IMO, you paid more for a marginally reliable amp that looked better to some folks. Just my opinion. Not picking on anyone or their sonic decisions.

Really the only differences I have seen is the covering and speakers. My personal favorite is the python skin for a additional 200 dollars  .The hr had special runs from time to time.Like others have said, buy it for its tone , not its looks.

What dumbasses. Why produce guitars in alternate colors. Black and grey guitars--no options. Hell, most people love the look of tweed amps. So they put out more than one option and look better as a company. Good luck--my last post.
