Hey there everyone, I've had a USA made 94' Blues deville 4x10 (ser# T-067853) for half a year now. I've heard stories of these amps suddenly shutting off during playing and up until now this has not been a problem for me. But yesturday while rehearsing with my band my amp suddenly went quiet (after about 2 hrs with breaks) it was the end of our rehearsal anyways so I packed it up and headed home. Today I went to try it and the same issue arose... I turned on the power, let it warm up, then switched to operate... no sound, if i turned up the drive channel to about half i did get some sound but that's not right. the internal speakers were plugged into the appropriate jack, and all the tubes were in place, I have fairly new replacement Sovtek 5881 wxt's in it and one of them has a hairline crack in the black plastic base is this the issue? I have also checked the jacks, I know they are notorious for breaking but they seem fine (ive always wrapped the cable around the handle) and I've checked the fuse and its intact... I have no idea what has gone wrong. I'm 17 years old, this was my first tube amp, I also own a 1974 Traynor bassmaster so I do have some knowledge of amplifiers. has anyone else had this problem? I'm open to any advise

Hmmmm...I really hoped that would take care of it. Did you try changing the preamp tubes?

well i got it fixed, it turns out that I just had a broken solder joint on one of the resistors in the preamp section. Oh and the blues devilles don't use a tube rectifier. The cracked tube socket still works too (PCB boards and amps don't mix)

Good job. Did you go ahead and check all the solder joints? It is a good idea to go ahead an go ovet the whole board. Joints to look for on the Hot Rod series are the 2 wire wound ceramic/cement resistors (white bocks), right beside them are 2 big diodes that should be checked, metal film screen grid resistors for power tubes (blue resistors on little bottom board next to power tubes), and all the input jacks. Other than that I have only had one real dog that I have worked on. It took me a long time to figure out what was wrong with it and turned out to be a bad coupling cap. I think the amps and run strong but what happens is that someone usually only fixes on joint to get it going and then months later another issue and so on. If when something does finally happen you go over the hole amp, you shouldn't have problems again for a while. Unfortalualy having PCB amps with high heat parts on it is a bad idea and will have reaccuring problems down the road but with the proper maintenance it isn't a big deal.
