I believe their reputation precedes them.

Got it.
very nice sounding for sure ! not as clean as I expected, however junk tubes throughout.
My guess is some good 12AX7's and two nice 12AT7's will help a bunch.
I'll use the next few posts to show pics.
I'm thinking this is a 1990's model ???

May have found the problem

three of the four 6l6's have 1.5K resistors across pin #'s 3 & 5 that are smoked.

A few wires got scorched on the sheilding only too.

Time for a trip to radio Shack.

Smoked, this is why buying used gear is a bit of a gamble, unless your handy with a soldering iron.

Resistors replaced (((THANKS ARJAY))) !!!

New pre amp and 12AT7's

now I need a bias adjustment, I have super clean and Super loud, and red hot tubes !!!

Some day I'm gonna have to make that investment into a bias checker.

I just carefully read the power tubes and found that they are 6L6GB's not GC's as they should be.
I'm thinking that this twin just might be cooking them ?????

I'm lovin mine. Best Tele amp I ever played. Some don't like the stock speakers but I like em fine. My first amp back in 68 was a black face Band Master. These reissues sound every bit as good as the originals.

Do you have the Jensens ? or the older Eminence ?

Mine is a 2000 model and has the eminence in it.

I'll bet a couple of Texas Heat speakers would sound sweet in them !

What are you using for tubes ?

The new tubes showed up today, I made an adjustment to the bias setting and all i can say is (((LOUD)))!!!

clearing up all of the tube troubles made other problems more apperant.
I have a dead potentiometer in the reverb channel volume, gets fuzzy and pops a bit as you turn it, clears up at the end of the travel.

So the normal channel sounds amazing, talk about power and low end force without fizzies and flab, this things got some crank !!!

Thanks again Arjay for helping me debug this critter !!! I'll have about $400 bucks invested when I'm done and have a sweet made in the USA Twin.

And the debugging is half of the fun too, awesome tone is the other half

Just wait I'll find a nice set of those JBL's to try out !

For the life of me I can't remember what fender silverface head with a 2x15 cab I bought on a local sale, however it had a pair of JBL's in the cab, i had to put a fuse holder and a switch in it (the day i got it) and I put it up for sale that night.
A guy calls and asks about #'s and model of JBL's that are in the cab, When I tell him he asks if he can drive from Chicago and get them that night !!!!
Must have been something very special about those speakers, he could care less about the head.
If I recall correctly they were yellow labels on them ?

Seems to me that the head had a pair of 6L6's and it was small.
