Hey everyone
I have played alot of amp's and I have to say i really like the feel and tone I get from my Fender HRDeville with the clean ch below 9:00 It's amazing the sustain and organic feel on the strings and add my Monte Allums SD-1/DS-1 pedals for drive and its just incredible. The problem I run into is if I need to turn up for drum and bass everthing changes and I lose the feel, As I turn the clean ch volume up, It feels like it starts to happen just before the power tubes start working ? . So my 60 watt HRD on 2 is really what I am after in a live jam volume. Mabey a 120 watt HRD:lol: Just wondering if anyone else ever had this issue and what they did about it.

Hi HRDeville,

The Hot Rods are known to be biased very cold from the factory, you might check the bias and adjust if necessary. The proper bias will give you a much better response, and would be a great place to start to shape your tone. If the bias adjustment is not enough to get the response that you want, you may have to start a quest for the tube compliment that will give you what you want. Keep in mind that changing output tubes usually requires a bias adjust to keep things operating at their best, and changing preamp and pi tubes requires no adjustment.

I would start with the bias. If you can do it yourself, it won't cost you anything. You could also try some different speakers. I had a similar problem with my HRDlx. That thing couldn't hold it's tone when turned up or cut a mix. I ran a set of JJ's and biased around 85mv. It helped the tone but still couldn't cut a mix. I couldn't get over amps with half the wattage like the DRRI. If Shims other recommendations don't work out, I'd go speaker shopping for more efficient and higher quality speakers. I dumped my HRDlx before I sunk any money into speakers and just bought something better.
