That's a great resource, Reb. But no single web site or book should be regarded as a stand-alone repository for information. I prefer to confirm data through three or four independent sources before trusting any fact as "the gospel". On particulary contentious issues I'll often consult anecdotal evidence as well then compare/contrast that with any personal experience and familiarity I may have.

Thus, my "studies" continue......

Exactly RJ,...some of these sites have come to their conclusions from data on amps sent in by owners,Greg Gagliano being one such researcher and he has a lot of good info on the vintage amps.
Then let other sites borrow from sources and before you know it books are out stating some of this as complete fact....but if there's ever been an "authorized Fender history" from the Fender factory records I'm not aware of it,although many of these fine books have interviews from key Fender personel, those old gents don't always agree on everything.
We have what we have. :D

Hi all.

I wish I read all this before...

Bottom line is... I just bought this very amp and came online to find out more about it. :)

All I know is that it sounds great. I have a Custom Vibrolux Reverb, and this sounds nothing like it, obviously. This sounds more like my old Fender Twin Reverb, but this one doesn't break my back when I lug it around and begins to break up nicely before everything falls off the shelves in my house. So I'm happy.

I love the 12s in the amp as I love my lows. It was acutally a pretty big selling point for me.

But the fact of the matter is that this amp has definitely had a lot of work done to it. It's been reupholstered, has a new grillcloth, possibly more if I open it up some.

Got it for $720 CDN.

Thanks to everyone who posted. Your expertise is truly appreciated over here.

Congratulations!

Do yourself a favor now -- carefully disassemble the amp and perform a detailed inspection of the chassis, speakers, and related components. Note any evidence of excessive heat, vibration, or wear. Document your findings (photos are especially useful) and make any arrangements necessary to repair or recondition anything that looks amiss. Your amp will thank you -- trust me.

Rawk on!
