Someone here recently posted sound clips of the stock Jensen in the DRRI vs. the alnico. I liked the stock overdriven tones better vs. the alnico. Historically hasn't the Deluxe Reverb typically contained a ceramic speaker?

BTW I visit the PGS store in Portland often and they used to have a stack of the FSRs in the showroom - nice looking amp!

I may have heard that clip, or one like it. I also thought that the ceramic sounded better. But I also think Knotty Pine may be right. Once the alnico is broken in, LOOKOUT!!
Congrats & enjoy, Knotty Pine.

hey knotty pine...having given up on my Supersonic 22 venture.....I took your lead and ordered a Deluxe Reverb FSR at GC last night.....hope to have it mid-week. My guess is we're both going to be happy campers !!!!! I'm told the speaker helps make it even "more" pedal-friendly than the std. model.......

Damn it you guys....Every time I convince myself that I really can't afford another amp, up pops a thread like this. Tax returns are on the way, heating bill won't be so bad for a while now...maybe, just maybe I can swing it :D

...my new DRRI FSR has put bounce back in my step. My Strats are singing once again. :D

Buzzed the speaker on my break-in transformer for a day, and have retubed the preamps with a mixture of Tung-Sol, Mullard and E/H. Rounded out the brightness quite a bit on the Vibrato channel......

It seems to play nice with the OCD and Tim at lower volumes....we'll get to crankin' her soon.

Next up, power tubes and bias check.....

You should check (and adjust if necessary) the idle bias for optimum tone, even with the existing power tubes.

Cool!

Fender sets the bias pretty low on all the re-issues to maximize tube life, which does not necessarily translate into the best tone.
