Hey all

I got a Frontman 212R at Christmas and for the price i paid, i love this amp. Does the job, is well built and solid. A few crackly/not very responsive tone pots but i'm sure a tweak can sort these.

I'm now wondering if it's possible to use with an extension cabinet at all? I'm looking to boost my sound and add extra tone with a different cabinet but i'm not sure if its possible.

I'm a complete noob with knowing what ohms to use with what cabinets, heads etc so any guidance is great.

Thanks!

Hi stevelarke,

I believe that your amp is 4 ohm, check your manual for the specs (two 8 ohm speakers in parallel is 4 ohms). The FM212 is 4 ohm, not sure what the difference is with the "R" version. You can use just about any external 4 ohm or 8 ohm cabinet instead of the internal speakers, as long as the wattage rating on the external speakers is equal to or greater than the amp wattage rating. But I'm not sure that you have a speaker jack, maybe the speakers are connected directly to the circuit board. If you have a speaker jack, simply unplug the internal speakers and plug in the external cabinet. If no speaker jack, then you might have to fashion an extension wire from your amp's speaker wire to the external cabinet. Be sure to use speaker wire/cable for speaker connections, don't use instrument cable.

There is no external speaker jack on the 212R.
