I'm looking for a good, reliable amp for the dough, and the experiences with peavey I've fiddled with (Classic 30) has been pretty great, but I would like to hear from ya'll.

Anything really. Bandits? 6505s? the Classic series? lets hear it.

Thanks

my 6505+112 when playing at low volumes the sound fades lower at times, so I have to flip the bypass off then on then its good. its only a month old, if i tap on top over that area it works also.Today I had no problems so will see. Most amps have there issues, when I played Engl there weren't many people having problems with there amps! Well made by a small German company.

If you've used a Classic 30 you already know they make an excellent amp. I think the Classic 30 and Delta Blues models are excellent. I believe they are often overlooked by some players but I've seen Peavey equipment on stages with many top acts. As you probably know their products are made in the USA and they have a good reputation for customer support. They aren't for everyone especially if you're looking for the "blackface" sound but I would put their quality and tone ahead of many of the well known companies. Even their solid state amps are very good. A well known local blues artist here uses a Peavey Bandit on a regular basis and he sounds great.

I've owned and used a lot of Peavey amps through the years, including a bunch of their power amps in my various PA systems. I still have the Peavey 210 Chorus that I bought new in 1994, before MF. I also have the Peavey Combo 115 bass amp that my son and I used on the road every weekend from 1994 to 1999. I have an Audition 110 that I got from a friend who owed me money and I bought one of their Vypyr series amps, the 75W version, but it's a little too "metal" for me.

I think Peaveys are well made, built to last and great to play through. And I think they're still made in the good old USA!

I've worked on maybe 3 Peavey Classic 30's and own one. If the amp is playing well and holds a bias with all the tubes... you are cool. BUT, if you need to remove the circuit board and work on the thing, beware of all kinds of potential issues.

For one, the "board" is really broken (literally) into three parts. Folded together and held by bare jumper wires on each edge. You need to straighten the boards out to get to some of the components. And this can lead to broken jumpers. Which you may not notice until after putting the amp back together and seeing that it doesn't work.

Plus, the PCB baord itself is kinda thin and prone to tracer lifting from crude handling & soldering. I'd only use a very good Hakko soldering iron with this puppy. As finding boo-boo's can be a nightmare.

Check the schemo and layout... notice the jumpers.

I bought a Peavey Deuce in 1976 and it's still going strong today with no problems at all. I also have a Peavey Decade that I've owned since about 1978 or 79 and that little gem still runs great.Peavey is well known for its ruggedness and longevity as well as having killer tone for a very reasonable price.

I never cared much for any of Peavey's OEM speakers -- no matter what they happened to be (Sheffields, Scorpions, Black Widows, etc) they always seemed to strangle the amp's tone. OTOH, their circuits seem well designed while the engineering and construction are solid. Replacement drivers from Weber, Eminence, EV, JBL, or Celestion (depending upon the specific amp model and the player's tastes) would really let the Peaveys shine.

YMMV

I've had a couple of Peavey amps and I think they are great! One was a Classic 30 and putting it through a 15" extension cab made it even better!

Peavey are the amps that everyone likes to look down their nose at. In truth, they are solid, well built, workhorse amps. As Arjay mentioned, their speakers aren't the most amazing in terms of tone, but you can swap those out. My experience with a late 70's TNT100 that served me well for many years is that they're built like tanks. We used to joke that I could probably throw that TNT down a flight of stairs and it would still work.

Its funny thats the same reason why no one has taken home the little gem (classic 30) in the shop. A lot of people see the "peavey" symbol on the front and don't even bother to play it.

I think I should give the amp a good home 8) Just need the summer to come around and I'll be working two jobs...

Its funny how a lot of muscians (experienced or not-so-much) come into the store looking for that particular brand of theirs, and they don't give any of the other brands a try... Though., I've had a couple of people who come in looking for one brand (like Martin or Gibson) and I introduce them to another (we carry Taylor and Fender for example)

I need to put my 2 cents in on the peaveys.....I've had a classic 30 since around 95 or 96. It was my first "real" amp and to get an all tube amp as your first, well, you just don't realize and truly appreciate that until later on down the road.

I had my original 30 and it fried. I then bought another one. I played that with a marshall and traded them both for something different, but thank god I still had my original classic 30. I buckled down, did some trouble shooting and replaced the power supply...good as new. So, in 15 years or so it's taken a few retubes and a power supply, but has been my amp for that long.

All I have to say is the peavey classic 30 is one hell of an amp! I have no complaints what so ever.

I've had my C30 for a few years now, and have had absolutely zero issues with it. Very realiable, and sounds great, too. As has been mentioned, not a blackface sound. Somewhere between Fender and Marshall.

Very cool 8)

I been thinking about how this summer might play out. I'm going to have to use my money for our churches mission trip, and possibly a beach retreat (I'm having a hard time convincing my parents for some charitable loans  ) and I want to have some money left over so I won't be broke in college... so I don't know if its a good time for a new amp.

I've played both the Classic 30 and Delta Blues and really liked them a lot. Peavey amps never really die. They're American made too. I'd choose one over the HRD series any day. I agree with what Arjay said about the speakers. That's an easy fix though.
