Just wondering what every one with and Hod Rod model what setting have you found? and what settings sounds like who and what?
I normally use a fender MIM standard heavy on the bridge pick up.My settings on my Hot Rod Clean volume around 4 treb, bass, mids are all 7's and reverb about 3. Its generic settings. my gain channel volume matches the clean level. That seems to be my sweet spot but like I said its a generic setting sounds good for blues and classic rock. I also use only one pedal a wah.

I have mine set for a good volume balance between clean and drive channels also, it sounds fantastic. This is how I have it set, and don't really change it much, these settings cover everything from great clean tones on the clean channel, to smooth driven rock tones on the drive channel. Of course the type of tubes installed makes a difference, I have GT 12AX7-C in both preamp spots and pi spot, and the stock GT red label output tubes (5881s)

I had to put a 12au7 in v-2 I believe. The middle Preamp tube. It was too grimmey and hot for me. it mellowed it out a bit, I play blues, classic rock and alternative.

Yes, half of V2 is used only for the drive channel. I tried a 12AT7 in V2 and it did tame the drive channel somewhat, but I liked the sound of the 12AX7-C better..... for now.

shimmilou's settings are very similar to mine other than my Mids & Presence are around 7-8 .
I usually keep it on Drive with guitar volume 3/4 up, crank the guitar & pick attack for more.
P-90s, Fender SCs & Gretsch Dynas all seem to "crunch out" nicely with those settings.
(Humbuckers not so much.)

On the one I had, off was my favorite setting after a while
Seriously though, when it was working, I ran the Volume around 5-7 and the Master stayed pretty much flat out and I used my guitars volume control to keep things under control. The tone settings always depended on the guitar I was using. Humbucker equipped guitars went in the second input with the bright switch engaged, tone settings to taste. Single coil pups I turned the bright switch off and adjusted the tone controls to taste.
I really hated the Fizz More Fizz channels and I ran a set of JJ's with Eurotubes Blues Option #1. I'm primarily a Blues guy now.
For pedals I usually use two BYOC British Blues Overdrive pedals one modded for single coil pups because the pedals a little bright for Strats and Danos so I change a few things and added a little more gain. I try not to sound like anyone and I always sound like myself regardless of the gear I use. Weird stuff. Fender used to have a setting guide for the HRDlx, I don't know if they still do. If I find it, I'll post it. It was pretty helpful.

You won't sound like SRV anyway nobody will. If you ever saw him live, nobody gets near his tone. Lots of folks think they nail it though. It's kind of funny.

Here's a link to what I think is an older manual. Bill Schultz signed the intro letter.

"Live at Montery" I am assuming that's SRV.
More Drive in, Drive maxed out, Master on 10!
I would litterally gets the cops called out on me. and maybe its just my amp but I think it sounds awefull with those settings. I agree no where near SRV.

The HRDlx gets loud fast, but in the grand scheme of things, it's no louder than any other 40 watt amp. It just hits full volume on the dial a lot faster. I played a 100 watt Twin for over 30 years. Now that thing could get loud.

I agree. I've never heard anybody cop that sound. That Stevie Snacks guy on youtube has come the closest imo.

He's still about a thousand miles away too. You ain't gonna get anywhere close with any HRD/Blues Deluxe/Jr amp. SRV had the magic. If you listen to Lonnie Mack you'll see where Stevie started his trip.

Stevie used Two '70's Vibroverbs I think. Im not sure what his settings are but His string gauges were like 12's. Might as well be piano strings IMO.

He actually used dozens of amps and I don't think any of them were Hot Rod Series amps.

Really? I read an article about his tone in a blues guitar mag and they honed in on his amps. I knew about the Vibroverbs and I knew he played out of a Marshal at one time. I have "Live and Montruex" and "Live and El Mocombo" and you can clearly make out the Vibro Verbs. Maybe the article was about his early sound. I Wonder if SRV was alive today would every one still try to replicate the sound. You know we only truley apreaciate people after they die and then we give them some super human status to thier lives. Just something to think about. No one ever tried to replicate Eric Claptons tone. But onces he's dead. Im sure the market will flood with Clapton version this and Clapton issue that. Not to take away from Clapton but you know its true.
