Ok i got a Cyber Twin SE last month and it was a 2001 model that was suposidly played very little.Well i been playing it off and on for a couple weeks and it has a tinny rattle (sounds like the tubes rattling) in it when i play. Also the fact that it has so many options its allmost overwhelming and i payed $800 for it.It is also made in Mexico which i was really looking for a made in U.S.A. amp but it seemed su ch a good deal.Well now i can get a new Super Sonic for a super deal like $200 more then a payed for the Cyber Twin SE and its made in the U.S.A. plus it doesn't have all the options and seems alot simpler. So i am trying to decide which amp would be better for me. I play alot of ac/dc, led zepplin, kid rock, eric clapton, most of the simpler music of those eras. I also play a couple hours a week for my own fun and not in any band or do i gig anywhere. So now i am thinking that the super sonic might be a better amp for me?So i am looking for some feed back to help me decide for my playing style which one i should have.Should i take back the Cyber Twin SE and get the super sonic or Have the Cyber Twin repaired, since its out of warranty i am sure thats not going to be cheap.
Thanks

Nobody can answer that but you, of course. But I think the Super Sonic is one of the best sounding amps Fender has produced in recent years. Might be more than a little loud for most home users, but it does sound great.

I can't answer which of those amps is better for you, but it's possible that the 'rattling' noise is a bad tube- simple to replace and not all that expensive. With the amp powered on as you would play it, tap LIGHTLY with the eraser of a pencil on one tube at a time, and if you get the same or nearly same noise, you've found the bad tube. Simply replace it (with the power OFF!) Start with the preamp tubes first.

Good luck!

Ok last night i played my cyber Twin and when i play the 6th string with a lot of bass you can really hear it rattle, allmost sounds like a lose screw inside. Being this amp was made in 2001 and not played alot should i just swap out the tubes?

I'm not familiar with the Cyber Twin, but if it takes 12AX7 preamp tubes, they are around $15 each. I still recommend trying the pencil tap technique before spending money unnecessarily. The way you describe the problem, though, it sounds like a bad tube to me. Are you sure nothing is loose, causing a vibration? (That's why the pencil tap would be helpful.) Tap LIGHTLY!

If you're willing to gamble, go for it and put in new preamp tubes.

BTW read the following old thread of Jan 30th: "Blues Junior Issue on Warm Up". Sound familiar? Tubes don't need to be old to 'rattle'.

i read the blues junior start up problem the guy was haveing, and mine is totaly different. When you play the 6th string with alot of bass is the only time that this rattle(noise) can be heard.I read that the new cyber twin se has the tubes on the outside and also has a rattle prevetion feature my old one does not.Sounds like this was a problem on early cyber twins that Fender decided to fix it. I looked at the schematic and my tubes are inside and towards the front of the cabinet so i am not sure how easy they well be to get to.I just hate the fact that i have to change something in a amp i have only had for less than 30 days.Maybe i will just take it back and order a brand new one for more money.Decsions decsions.lol

Certainly an option is to get a new one, but of my two Fender tube amps (a Blues Jr. and a Blues Deluxe Reissue), both purchased new, BOTH had problems with preamp tube rattling. This is not the tube being loose in the socket, but rather a defect internal to the tube which makes a noise similar to a rattle. It is all too common in the tubes that Fender puts in their amps.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
