I've got a nice little Vibro Champ XD that I fit with a Jensen C8R speaker and old RCA 6V6. I only use the Fender voices on it and like it a lot.

I was wondering how to best mimic an old Vibro Champ in operation? My thinking is that there must be a Gain setting that would correspond to the gain a BFVC preamp circuit produces, then use the Volume knob just like the Volume knob on the old amp.

Gain on 10 is too distorted and raspy sounding to me. I don't think a BF circuit produces that much overall gain, does it? I usually end up with the Gain around 5 but I just wonder if anyone knows for sure what would make this amp react most like an old Vibro Champ.

Thanks!

Figure that one out and you could be a very rich man!! Just kidding! Blackface tone is to me, the way I interpret it, to be a warm, very clean tone, a little sag or compression, with excellent spring reverb. Crank up the volume and introduce some very mild, warm overdrive. That's what the Fender Blackface tone means to me, and how I would describe my DRRI. Now, can you achieve this Holy Grail of tone with a VCXD? You might could get close, but I'm not sure about the feel and nuance of an all tube, old Vibro Champ. Since I've not personally owned either of these amps, please take my opinion with a grain of salt. I do hope you find the tone you are looking for though!!

Thanks, Hollis. I actually get a pretty good tone running the Gain around 5 like I said and the Volume right up. I like controlling things from the guitar :D

I'm just wondering if that's as close as I can come. I don't have a real VC around to compare it to.

Just hoping someone from Fender would read this and comment on the DSP programming. I was hoping for something along the lines of "voice 4, gain 6 = stock Fender preamp" or somesuch :D
