Just received my copy of "How to Hot Rod Your Fender Amp" by Jeffery Falla from Amazon. Haven't had much time to do anything but give it a quick scan, but it looks pretty good. Lots of diagrams, schematics, photos, etc. It should prove interesting and useful to modders and people who just want to learn more about Fender amps.

Nice. I would be interested in what they have to say about Hot Rodding a Tweed Deluxe "5e3 circuit". I'm aware of some cap value changes to voice the amp to your personal tastes, but any info would be great.

I've been going through the book in more detail and it appears that most of the mods are for Silverface, Blackface Reissues, and Hot Rods. The author does go into good detail about why Tweeds sound the way they do plus good technical detail in general about all the types of Fender amps. Its worth a read and at about $18 from Amazon, well worth the price. If anything, the photography is fantastic.

I have already read it a few weeks ago. Mostly it tells about the circuits and how to mod a silverface to a blackface. and the basic mods on a silverfaced amp like making reverb on both channels and making a mashall sound on the normal channel and how to put a tweed sound in a silverface. How to bias and what to do on the modern and reissue amps. it's a nice little read but it's not nothing you couldn't figure out buy spending a few hours on the internet.

That's the point I think. Its all good information and its all contained in one place so that you don't have to spend several hours searching the Internet.

+1

It's also a helluva lot more convenient having a reference book on an already-cluttered bench than a computer -- even a laptop.

+1. I thought it was an excellent book. Indeed, nice to have everything in one place. And my wife got it for me for my birthday too!

I did the reverb mod that is talked about in the book (removing R103 in the Hot Rods) to my Blues Deluxe Reissue and it made a noticable improvement in the sound. I didn't even have to remove the circuit board. I just heated up the resistor leads and popped it out using a curved dental pick. Much richer and smoother sounding now. :D

Nice !
Thats cool, found something worthwhile that made your amp sound better!
sounds like it was worth the price paid.
My b-day is this coming Monday, we'll see if the wife got a copy for me.

I wish it would have gone into more detail on the artists mods on why they were done (what tone change was achieved).
