I bought a Blackfaced Frontman25R in a pawn shop. Can anyone tell me how old this is? And the previous owner cut off the grounding prong of the so that it could plug into an old fashioned two-prong outlet. The speaker "pops" when I shut it off unless I have headphones plugged in. I am a bit of neophyte with electronics but I want replace the cord. I know its probaly an easy fix but can any guide me in this or point me to some sources of information on this subject?

You can easily replace the plug on the end of the power cord, and with significantly less trauma than opening up the amp and wiring a new cable to the innards. You'll find 3-conductor plugs at any big-box hardware store (Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace, etc). Merely cut off the old plug, strip the neoprene insulation back to expose the three wires within. They'll be color-coded in black, white, and green. The black wire is the "hot" and will connect to the larger of the two tines on the replacement plug. The white wire is "neutral"; connect it to the smaller tine. Green is the ground and should be tied to the center prong.

About fifteen minutes and a couple of Bud Lites should do it.

Thank you kindly Arjay...you're a gentleman, a scholar and a finr taster of poor brews.
I do have to ask the 2nd dumbest question in the universe, however (the dumbest question is the one not asked): By connecting these various colors you do mean sodering them dont you?
I know I am a rookie but I do want to get to where I am doing things for my self If you can dig that.
Thanks again

Most stand-alone replacement plugs use screws concealed inside to attach the wires to the contacts. Strip the insulation on the end of each of the three wires within the power cable by about ¼" or so, then wrap the exposed end around the appropriate screw and tighten snug.

Pour yourself a Glenlivets upon completion.

Then pour me a double -- neat, with a club soda chaser.
