The Super Sonic 22 is pretty noisy and I can't get it to sound decent over 4 or 5 on the volume dial. GP magazine points that out too and I found it to be true.

The VM series to me anyway sounds like a glorified tube driven version of the GDec. I've owned both a Bandmaster and Deluxe Reverb and neither sounds anything like their namesakes. I wish Fender would reissue the Bandmaster. Mine was a great amp. I really regret selling it.

Thanks everybody for the input. I came across another thread about the SuperSonic. I was somewhat horrified by the complaints, not just from one person, but many, & all similar complaints. Sounds to me like Fender should pull them off the market. It also sounds as though Fender is a bit complacent about it customers. As for the VM, 40w is a little too big for my needs. I'd like try one out at least though. Anyway, the DRRI seems to have the best reviews as well, so it's top of the list. I was also considering the Super Champ xd, nice size, nice price, but I'm a bit put off by it's preset effects, & not sure of the build quality. Any other comment would be much appreciated. Cheers

You cant go wrong with the drri. Its much better in the tone dept and build quality than most of the amps around that price range. Many people I know have gigged extensively with it with rarely a hiccup. Not the case with many of the other amps.Plenty loud enough to gig with .
