Goodmorning folks,
Don't know why this shows me as hobbist I've been playing for nearly half a century

I have an old Twin Reverb that sounds great but just way too heavy to gig with plus way too much power even outdoor gigs at resorts I can't get much over 2 on the volumn
so I'm really not using the Twin at a reasonable level......never gonna breakup with my Epiphone.

I am looking at Deluxe Reverbs...........40 pounds is as heavy as I'd like to tote around
a re-isssue at 22watts is probably all I need but wonder about the DRRi VM is the tone as good?
With a few exceptions the newer anything is of lower quality than the older thing.... so I am suspisious of the VM.

Anybody have any advice here? Our band plays mostly acoustic/electric guitars with a little electric guitar here and there.
I am playing a Taylor 810ce a Taylor NS74 nylon string and a Martin D-35s all through LR Baggs Venue using Monster acoustic cables ( I was amazed at the difference with these cables)
We play lots of Clapton, Sanatana,Peter Gabrial some Littlefeat and raggae.

Would very much appreciate some advice ...........is there another amp I should be concidering?
All the best,
Fred

If you enjoy the fizz/more-fizz channel-switching and the S/N ratio of the HRD series with some mediocre effects thrown in, then the VM is your ticket.

+1, I'd go with the DRRI. The Vintage Molested series does nothing for me either.

Go with the DRRI.

Wouldn't bother with the VM myself...

Excellent, everybody is saying the same thing, just as I suspected the good old 22watt DRRI is the real thing. I have a Boss ME-50 for effects which I rarely use..........a little delay is the most I ever use on it..........still haven't found a dirty tone that I like.

I like the lush reverb and tremelo on my Twin Reverb...the breakup on my Twin at 5-6 is dirty enough for me but ofcourse at that volumn our amimals have run for their lives, the leaves fall off the plants........birds go away. the neigbors are calling etc....just too much.

So we think the DRRI fits the bill.................does anybody think I should look at any other amp concidering the music we play and small gigs we do ...usually 30-100 people max.???
Thanks for the imput,
Fred

This is The Fender Community Forum -- most of us here are fans of the company and their products.

If you need to add channel-switching capability to any Fender blackface re-issue amp (or the originals for that matter), try one of these......

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod ... sku=153931

It's the best $75 I ever spent on a stompbox.

Yes, I know what your saying.............I didn't mean different manufactures ...just asking if anyone thought a different Fender amp suited me better.

I am down here in the Caribbean 2000 miles from the nearest decent music store so I am forced to make choice and purchase online if your wondering why my questions seem silly.
I just wonder if anyone playing mostly acoustic guitar thinks that a purely acoustic amp like an Acoustasonic 30 for instance is really nessesary ? And would my electric guitar have electric guitar tone??

The A/B/Y unit permits the switchable use of both channels in a dual-channel amp (with independent signal chains and effects pedals of your choice) or conversely two separate amps running in tandem. Thus, you can configure the channels of a typical blackface Fender with different volume levels and EQs then feed them from your pedalboard with whichever stompboxes you wish. I generally set up one channel (with various pedals) for a heavy modern-rock OD sound and the other for traditional Texas Blues using only a Fulltone OCD. I can select either or both tones "on the fly" using the Tonebone's footswitches. I've also used the pedal to create pseudo-stereo effects on stage using two independent amps. It's a pretty versatile piece of gear and a real "force multiplier" for those who play vintage or vintage-type gear.

Hi, I'm new here. I'm just curious why everybody seems so down on the VM. What's bad about it? I've also been recently considering one of these or the Super Sonic 22w. Any good advice, comments, criticisms? I'm partial to Blues, R&B, & old school Rock. Thanks

Well , if you look at the pricing ,the vm deluxe is 200 dollars cheaper than the drri . The supersonic 22 is the same price.Hardly ever do you see any problems written about the drri.I have had mine for over a year and a half .I have gigged with it most weekends and play it at home almost every day .The only thing I did was replace a couple of tubes. There have been many people writing in about problems with the ss , especially noise and rattles. For the money , I would choose the drri again any day of the week.Great tone to build on and the reliability and build quality is great.I know alot of people are looking for a 2 channel amp similar to a Marshall , but the best bet is to choose a OD or distortion pedal to your choosing. The pedal that retroverbial suggested is a great idea . Like the commercial says ,"you can get with this, or you can get with that". Thing is , if we were talking 3 or 4 hundred dollars difference, I would say you get what you pay for, but with the SS 22 such doesnt seem to be the case.

Try taking one into a recording studio.

Once you live that down, you'll know.
