BTW, I just finished creating a demo of my amp. It wasn't very well thought out and I probably should've done it when I wasn't so worn out after work. It would've made for a better demo of the amp and I would've been more creative with my licks or chords use. I basically just fiddled around with the amp at different setting. I kept the Tone know at about 6-7 the whole time. I wish I would've changed it up a little, but I'm sure everyone knows what a tone knob does.

Enjoy! :D

Thank you, everyone!

The speaker is a Eminence Texas Heat. It has nice bottom end and the mids and highs are crisp without out being too piercing.

The rectifier tube is a JJ GZ34 vs the 5Y3, power tubes are JJ 6V6GCs, and the preamp tubes are 12AY7EHs. I really like how the amp sounds with 12AY7's in the V1 and V2 position. It tone stays really clean until it's just about dimed. Then you get power tube distortion instead of the preamp distortion.

To get grit at a lower volume I used a Keeley moded Blues Driver for lower gain stuff and I used a MI Audio Crunchbox for the higher gain / more modern stuff. It has a really nice Marshall tone to it. For my lead boost I used a TS9DX set on TS9 mode.

I'll see if I can't get a demo up of the how the amp sounds with those pedals.

I used the 5Y3 and a 5751 in v-1 a tung-sol reissue 12AX7 in v-2

I will put a 12AY7 in v-1 as soon as I find a good NOS, I have yet to have a good experience with the EH stuff, that is what was in my 5E3 when I got it and it rattled and buzzed like crazy.

I have the tung-sol 6v6GT's for power tubes and love them !

I put a Weber alnico 12A150 in mine and its getting sweeter every day !
I have heard a lot of great reviews on the Texas Heat, I would love to build a 5E3 and put it in a 2x12 one alnico weber and one texas heat, i'll bet it would just love that combo.

Very nice build and a great sounding amp. I haven't thought about building my own tube amp, but from the sound of yours it might be time well spent!

My experience with EH tubes has been good, so far. Not so much with the JJ tubes. I'm referring to preamp tubes. Originally I had two JJ 12AX7's in the preamp, but one of them was very microphonic.

The JJ 6V6s and the GZ34 I have sound great, but I can hear them rattle a little. I can even see some garage at the bottom of the tubes because of them rattling. They have been holding up great and sound great though. I really don't hear the rattle of the tubes (internally) when I'm playing at band levels. At home levels I do though. No biggie though cause it's not that noticeable. I do however plan on getting other brands of tubes to try out.

I may also try a 5Y3 one day. I do like the sound of the GZ34 though.

I hear great things about the Weber Alnico. That combo would make for a nice 212 combo. One day I'll make a matching extension cab to place under my combo amp to cover a little more real estate. I still have enough carbon fiber material and speaker cloth. I just may try another speaker in the extension cab. A Weber Alnico would be a good choice.

Tube Depot is a great resource and their instructions are very detailed and easy to follow.
