Your pics are outstanding, Snowy.

Beautifully lit, proper depth-of-field, totally focused.

They'd be what we call in the book and magazine business "publication-ready".

No doubt about it.

Very smooth presentation, sir.

Arjay

G'day Folks, I managed to get some wiring done, actually wiring/soldering the various connections is about all that's left in this build. Still got the preamp sockets and Filament wiring to go.

Tone Controls wired.

Power Tube and Rectifier Sockets wired.

Completed wiring for the Input Sockets and Tone controls.

Thanks for the comments guys, I really enjoy keeping a "build diary" and if it can help others that makes it all the more worthwhile doing.

I didn't get a chance to do any pics today but I did get the Filament wiring completed and the chassis installed in the cabinet. I still have to put some insulating shrink tubing on the unused Transformer lead taps for the different voltages I won't be using. First chance I get I'll put the pics in the thread to finish it off nicely.

Anyone have any experience or opinions on the Mission Amps 5E3 kit?

Hi PTM,

I think you should contact Trinity Amps about a Tweed Deluxe kit and have a chat to them, their kit looks very good to me, a very traditional build, it also has good documentation and they are in Canada.

here's their website
http://www.trinityamps.com/

Here's some details about the kit (looks very nice!)

Looking really good! Have you considered swapping out the tone control cap with an orange cap? I'm not sure how much of a difference that will make.

Keep up the great work!

Thanks Matt,

I didn't think about swapping that cap but it would be a simple thing to try out.

How's your amp going? I just love these amps. 8)

That's true.

The amp is doing great! It's my only amp and I use it for gigging and practice.

I've gigged it once, at a fairly large bar, and it did really well. Sounded great all night and not a hint of problems.

I was worried this amp wouldn't be enough (watts / power / loud). At sound check, I had to turn down a little. I think I was at about 5-6. I turned down to about 4. Our sound man was impressed with the sound and even more so impressed that I built it. :D

I managed to get some pics of the finished chassis installed. Won't get to run the tests/check voltages, bias etc, until tomorrow night.

When I do the testing I'll post up running through the calculations for idle dissipation, etc. Being Cathode biased the calcs are a little different and these old style circuit/amps run the tubes pretty hard.

I know it has been said many times Snowy but your pictures man are glorious!

When you're done with the build you should give National Geographic a call...
Maybe they can do a Amp Issue...you as photog of course!
