Once I get the parts soldered I like using a pair of high quality flush cutters to trim the components leads nice and neat, close to the board. This helps minimise the chance of any shorts to the chassis once the board is mounted on the standoffs.

Another tip I can give that I really believe helps, is to bite the bullet buy quality tools if you need to get some to tackle an amp build. Look after them and they will last a lifetime and always be there when you need to do a repair or a touch-up job on your amp or guitar.

You gotta love that thru hole plating on the Tube Depot pc board. Rob Hull does a fine job designing those. Good stuff! Former Navy guy, Arjay.

You're right there rjake, Rob Hull is a Champ, a very practical and knowledgeable Amp tech, very friendly and approachable too.

I've had a few email sessions with Rob and he doesn't hesitate to sit down and type up a good answer to any query you have, I'd give him 10/10 for customer support any day. 8)

I've emailed a couple of times. Brian is cool, too. I've been buying my tubes and components from them for a long time. I do wish they would lower the price of that Carlin replacement switch for Voodoo Lab pedals though.

The board is now fully loaded.

I settled each of the Filter caps onto a small bed of Hot Melt Glue to help their stablility and dampen any vibration.

I mentioned the Orange Drop tone caps were pretty fat and bulky so I decided to make sure they had a nice gap separating each of them and then put a small dollop of Hot Melt between each one to ensure they can never vibrate against each other.

These little guys here can test out your soldering chops, the ruler is in millimetres.

Next up I'll be wiring the board for the external connections.

Looks like NASA certified soldering techniques Sir!
Back in the day, I think that was the most highly prized certification!
I know it was one of the toughest!

Hi tyronne, thanks, while I don't think I have much in the way of anything to offer NASA  , I do try my best to be fussy about the soldering, I think barring obvious mistakes in making wrong connections or incorrect cap polarity, the quality of soldering is probably the most likely thing to bring the build unstuck.

Things are starting to get a little busier on the ol' board now, here's most of the wiring attached.

Installed the Output Transformer and the Power Transformer. Some fairly chunky iron, both made in USA by Heyboer, these things weigh a ton and ooze quality.

Next up will be fitting the pots, switches etc to the chassis. The switches are Carling, the pots are Alpha.

I'm having a great time with this build so far! 8)
