Looking for opinions.........

Do you think that the HRDeville 3 gives the classic Fender clean sound vs. a Silverface (i.e. early to mid 70's) Twin Reverb??

I have owned three Twins ('81 Silverface and two '94 PR266 Twin Amps) and the massive volume and weight keeps me selling them, but I love their clean sound(s). Am I kidding myself considering the new Deville 3? A 40 watt Deluxe Reverb would be perfect!

I play in a stereotypical classic rock band doing the week-end warrior bar circuit and plan to run the Fender "whatever" with a 36 watt Marshall Plexi clone.

I can pick up a used '72 Silverface Twin for $875 and the new Deville 3 is a few bucks more. Thanks for the help!!!!

Matt

If you play every WE, reliable amp is preferable. 8)

Tissan,
Which one do you view as more reliable?

A well maintained Twin will blow the doors off any HRD series amp in the reliability department.

Please don't compare a silverface to a HRD here.....or they will all go nuts again.... If you are in the states and can buy a silverface twin for reasonable money don't think about it just do it....And Sssshhhhh dont say HRD!!!

Thanks guys, it's nice to be back. I've had a lot going on with work and still do. I'll still be around. Maybe not as much. Gotta make some green while I can. Been doing some gigging and recording too. My plate's a bit full right now.

It's like this. My 76 Twin went 30 years before it needed to be recapped and a couple minor things done to it. My HRDlx went 3 months before it took it's first dump on me. Which do you think was more reliable? It's the quality of the parts and how well they were put together that defines reliability. The lead dress wasn't even that great on my Twin and it still had a great run and sounded great too. In my heyday in the late 70's and 80's that amp was gigged hard 3-5 nights a week. Never a hiccup and I never had to pull my backup out.

+1!

My '78 TR ran twenty-three freakin' years on the original glass. And when I took it in for a general overhaul in 2001, every component on the tag board was still comfortably within spec and the filter caps looked brand new (they were changed out regardless).

And for those twenty-three years I didn't even own a back-up rig.

That's how much confidence I had (and continue to have) in that amp.

Compare an aged amp with a new one is not easy because Reliability is like a bath cross-section:
High level of failure rate in a beginning of life, decreasing to the bottom (lambda constant for experts) for the main life time and finally reincrease for end of life.
Consequently:
- Aged Twin --> most of early life failures are gone but you have to thing about a consequent maintenance (cap, valves, drifted resistors, wear pots ...) but honnestly I don't know when (I don't know the MTBF or MTTF even B10) excepted for valves rougly 5Khs.
- New HRdv --> 5 years warranty with may be early failures.
:? :? :?
