Hi Folks,
Anyone out there had any problems with the clean channel distorting?
I have tested all the plate resistors, caps and voltages....all check okay.
The tube did test bad one of them had a deep boom echo sound if tapped.
I used some used 6L6that tested better than the ones in it...owner says
it still distorts in the clean channel.
Should I step back and blast it with 12ga pump or test it all again and insist
the owner get new 6L6's?
This amp has lots of issues.
Sure need some advice!
Owner want to trade it off and really wants the distortion gone.
Thanks folks!
Peace
Tube Dude

Hi tube dude,

Is the bias set properly? The bias should be set properly for each set of output tubes. When you say "the clean channel is distorting", are you talking about breakup or an unpleasant noise? Does the distortion sound the same on the clean and drive channels? The clean channel will have some distortion if turned up loud enough. The clean channel will also distort earlier if the bias is not adjusted properly.

Hey Shimmilou,
Thanks for that advice.
I think I'll have him bring it back and I'll recheck the bias and go from there.
Sure appreciate this.
Wish our world and lives could be as friendly and helpful as folks are on all the different types of forums.
Would be peaceful!
Thanks again...you take care.

Shimmilou,
Unplugged?!!!
No wonder I am so pepped up. I have been bit by
330 or so in the past, knowing full well the amp was plugged
in at the time..It's like having your own de-fib! lol!
Who ever reads this: PLEASE UNPLUG the amps b4 putting your
hands with fingers inside the chassis and to be on the safe side
make sure the power caps are discharged! They can zap a little too!
These voltages could also KILL you!
Thanks for the reply Shimmilou!
Take care!

 Not necessary for checking bias, but for most other tasks in the amp. :)

BTW, 4160 AC is my highest number, and boy does it do a number! Be safe!
