Hey bros,

I use my BDRI + Epi Les Paul with SD 59' pickups, I'm still searching for "the sound" and have some questions:

a. Think the combination sound a little "bassy", had to put bass knob to about ~3, it's normal?
b. I use inputs #1 and #2 and if volume pot (guitar) pass 4-5 then start crunching sound... for clean, have to put ~4.
c. I set the bias to 61mV (measured in mV at test point) who is the factory default. Its too cold?

Thx for help

a. Yes.
b. Yes.
c. Yes. If you have the factory stock Groove Tube 5881/6L6 power tubes, try 65 to 70 mV at the test point.

i run tung sol 6l6gc str early breakup and fender soft touch preamp tubes. i set my bass 1, mid 12, treb 9, pres 1, rev 3, normal channel and put a compressor in the loop only.the louder you play the less bass you need in the normal channel. i use the comp to control the massive volume. i dont add compression.it adds just a little without adjusting the knobs. i run the normal volume at 6. i have a jensen p12n speaker in the amp.turn off the bright setting. i have duncan aph 1n and aph1b pups in my lp.i run the pups close to the strings. they have a low pull on them. i changed the pots to cts 500k audio and put in malory 150 400v caps. i can get so close to the bluesbreaker tone it's scary. those settings are awesome with a strat too. just a suggestion. playing loud isn't a problem where i live. and i do.

ok firsly what yubes are you running in it? if you like gt tubes and want loud cleans without clipping then look at getting a white labeld tube, i know most new BDRI's come with the red label tubes which start to clip really early... the BDRI is a very muddy amp to start off with. if you are still looking for "that sound" and the tubes arnt the problem try changing the speaker... i mainly run my strat with overwound TS pups in it and i run my trebb on 6, bass on 5 mid on 6 and presence on 7..., also try using the bright switch if you arnt already...

the colder you bias it the more muddy it will sound and the more "uncontrolable" the sound, but your valves will last forever... the hotter you bias it the more bright and controllable it is, but it will start to clip earlier... the defualt setting is 68 at the test point... i run mine at 70 as i like the overdriven sound as i play a lot of blues...

Hi,

First, thanks for all your collaboration!
I'm using default tubes on BDRI, they are the GT Blue...
The crunching/overdrive I said was on pré-amp, I think, comes from humbucker saturation when guitar vol. above 5/6...
The saturation on valves (power) is normal, it's happening when amp vol. is about 5.

For example: if I put amp vol. in 2 and guitar vol. 4 sounds CLEAN, then I raise guitar vol. to 7 and sounds CRUNCHED. It's ok?

Hi BluesmanRS,

The blue label GT output tubes are for early breakup, that normal. If you want more clean headroom, then go with the red label output tubes. Your preamp tubes will affect breakup also, the stock preamp tubes in your amp are probably good for clean sound though if they are the GTs (Sovteks).

Blue - 1 to 3, early breakup
White - 4 to 7, best "overall" sound
Red - 8 to 10, Clean headroom, late breakup

P.S.
I agree that around 70mV or more will likely be a good bias point for your amp. :)
