I just bought a fender 59' Bassman LTD amp and I'm having some trouble getting the sound I'm looking for. First off the amp is very noisy which may just be bad ground in my house, next it's very twangy and is sounding hardly like a Bassman so I think it is either my ear, a problem with the amp, bad acoustics, or I just haven't gotten acquainted with how to use the amp yet.
So any tips on what to set it on to get kind of a chunky hendrix/SRV tone would help or if anyone has had the same problem let me know and tell me what you did.

Thank You

If the amp is very noisy there could be an issue with the amp. If you can't get he sound you seek and it's noisy. Fender has a great 5 year warranty, one of the best in the business. For the money you paid you should not get alot of noise.

Jump your normal and bright channels together and mess with the tone knobs. It shouldn't be twangy sounding.

Well I tried an LTD and I do think it's twangy and pretty trebly sounding to my ears. I really liked the way it 'snaps' when you hit the strings but I couldn't get the heights out of it so I didn't buy it.

I still consider it but I would have to change the speakers to something darker sounding if I bought one and that's 4 speakers to buy!

Just do what i did, i pulled the yukky Jensen wannabees and put in some weber CT's and sig 10'a (two of each) i put the Jensens on the bay and they sold for nearly what I paid for the webers.

Presto, new all american sweet sounding webers for less than $50.00

Now the other HUGE change came by simply setting the bias where it should be, fenders factory settings are COLD !!! which causes sterile sonding ice pick in the brain tone.

Really !!! find a good tech, call around and ask them what they think about how bias affects tone, when you get the right answer, GO ! most good techs will adjust bias for $30.00 or less with an amp that has an accessible bias pot (yours does).
