Greetings,

I have a Fender 65' Princteon Reverb RI which came with sovtek preamp & GT's for power.

Anyone come up with a nice replacement set for playing the blues?

Thanking you in advance, Larry...

There are a lot of web sites such as:

http://www.eurotubes.com/euro-l.htm#6
Etc

The Sov-Teks are usually pretty good. For replacement power tubes you might give the new Tung-Sol re-issues a try.

+1

I've had Sovtek pre-amp tubes in different amps and always felt they did as good of a job if not better than whatever else I tried... leave 'em in there.

I've been playing around with Mullard and Tung-Sol 12AX7s and have been pleased so far, which means a lot since I've been using old RCA's and GE's and other NOS tubes...figured I would finally try some new production tubes....they're a helluva lot cheaper. :)
And blues is the name of the game here.

I've had both TungSol reissued 12AX7's and 6V6GT's in a SF Vibro Champ and SF Princeton Reverb since early last summer. They are breaking-in quite nicely. Combination has a good "Fender" tone. Clean with slow onset of overdrive. Nice midrange. Good headroom. The TS RI 6V6GT works very well with either ceramic or alnico magnet Weber Vintage speakers. Sounds very much like a clear glass RCA 6V6GTA.

I use black plate Sylvania JAN 5Y3WGTA rectifiers (green label). Think they are 1970-80's vintage. You can still get good NOS for a reasonable price. These puppies last a long time. Much better transient and bass response, compared to Chinese or Russian "5Y3" labeled rectifiers, IMHO.
