Rollo, I had a 1972 Alpina 2002Ti. Basically stock, except dual Weber side drafts and Tii boxed suspension parts. Put in a 4:11 1600Ti rear end, so not so good top end. But, the midrange was hard to beat. Which is best for slaloms, IMHO. Alpina struts and bars sure made that car understeer. Sure was nice to scoot around the freeways.
supersonic noise thread resumes last couple paragraphs - but first...

The only Porsche I "owned" was putting a 2.2 E engine into a VW bus. Was kinda funny watching ppl in Mercedes expressions, as I passed them going up Sherwin Grade, on the way to Mammoth. Kinda a joke now, as I think the motor only had 160HP at the rear wheel. But, boy could those small Porsche engines rev. Red line was a starting point. I'd shift the darn thing a good 1K R's above the line. I loved rebuilding those engines, as they are like Swiss watches. With cranks bigger than most V-8's. I've never seen a Porsche with a fried or spunned bottom end.

Fastest car I've experienced is a friend's 997 Turbo. Darn thing is scary fast, as you have no idea how fast you are going until you look at the dash or the lines in the road flasing past you.

Ah... memories.

Who looks at the speedometer? or rear view mirror? - too many scary things back there - like blue lights, dead (but satisfied) sheep, fence posts strewn everywhere, old folks on cell phones ratt'n out to state troopers - yelling "some gol dern young whipper snapper with a geetar sticken' out of the passenger seat just blew by here like a gol dern DC-3 in one of those sporty cars - he had one of those Hollywierd look'n blondes next to him" Then he whispers "all i have is this nagging old woman i have been married to forever who once could rock out with the best but every time i turn it up ...she yells it's too damn loud" then sighs and yells at his wife (to sound P.O.) "those kids and their sporty cars- no respect"....

That happened once sort off i was on a run from Seattle to Hollywierd to visit friends and stopped at a rest stop in I5 south of Stockton and a young cat pulls up with a couple kids a wife in a van- he was from Oracle in the Bay Area on the way to Disneyland - he was clearly in pain. So he looked in - saw nothing but paint and my amp where the "Whiner and Crier's seat" would be and we were chatting and he was wanting one- "in due time dude" i whispered seeing his situation - then his wife came out and "made" him follow her- to whatever- when i got back on the interstate i NAILED it for him (did that in Oregon on the way to a race for 2 bus loads of boy scouts...gotta carry on the dream.

Nope i read about Fabcar - taking a 993 or 6 turbo and stuffing it into a Bus with Big brakes - the works, freaking roll cage, MOMO's for all- a SCREAMER

I built a 911 wrecking - 914 2.6 type IV- Keith black 103mm P/L, a weber cam, Pauter crank work, Pauter rods, Pauter roller rockers, TMW throttle bodies and MoTec M4 ECU with coil packs - ungodly spent 118K over 10 years on it- beautiful GT6 updated look - many in the club said it was the way Porsche should have done it (i restore/mod for fun)

then i blew up the wife's MG midget so i had too go ape on it...after BUYING it from her cuz i blew it up not her (i was young- webers, headers and stock springs, rockers etc -no workie long...in harmony) yep ...and now the RSA is in the process of getting UGLYier....

The 2.6 in the 914 on a chassis dyno was doing 257HP pretty much all runs...and the torque was phenom...it would PULL a stoplight IF YOU nicked it out of first gear QUICK (uncaged 1st in the tranny - a weak link).....if i knew how to post pixs i would post the engine and car shot- ...killer with throttle bodies, head work and a good tuner and cam combination you can get some HP normally aspirated and the plus of fat torque - that is why the 3.6/3.8 Porsche motors feel so good with gearing tweaked.

Boys and toys "Momma's don't let your boys grow up to be...... geeks, nerds or engineers" (with Schnauzers) a bad combination.

I wanted a BMW 630 when they came out in 77 - being hand built and such - but i was young and didn't understand $$ - still don't according to my master.....so i got a 99 SAAB EMS- but that's another "SAAB story".

But since this is pre getting off my behind time- i just put up my server array for sale - i am de-geek'n somewhat - so if i sell that mess for what i think i can - i get the fabspeed RSR headers (the island where i live has no smog rules), and possibly a supercharger - or i'll go throttle bodies) for this stage of going ape -i have gone ape before on it. The stock exhaust was the most horrid Porsche ever dropped on a 911 -

I workd at large Redmond software company from the late 80's until 2010 and trust me i have been in some SICK SICK SICK cars- where $$$$ is simply not a factor- but the dream is...and whoa baby- when you can rent 747 frieghters to haul 20 Porsches + friends over to Europe just to run the tracks in the summer...(non racing)....you can build a stioooooopid car and i know the guy... :D

when i was there in the early morning (i worked the data centers) and my office was right where i could look at the main entrance in front of the original 8 buildings and at 0 dark 30 that stop sign was MOLESTED badly by Ferrari, 959's for a bit - lambos RUF's etc just nasty but "legal" stuff...and the $@!&* for me was when i worked days and drove home at 7pm all the "young whipper snappers" in their "rice burners" would come out to play....my checkbook, driving license etc SUFFERED....

Joe walsh said it best...."I have a Maserati i can't drive"

Some of the funniest crap i ever saw was when i hired a kid who was making zero bucks- starving- barley making ends meet - saying your hired - your salary is 75k to start.....the faces i saw....and "Stuff i heard" we had 3 day classes on money management and investment-...

and for me it was all because Roy Nichols told me in the late 60's to get a skill other than geetar so you can eat....when required....(maybe he was saying i suckas a geetar picker-Eh? )-naw!!!

The RSA car carries a Supersonic 22 easy (had to get back on the tread)
I just recapped my 63 reverb RI stand alone with rolled tubular mylars - i like then a ton- smooth, - i have also experimented with tube combos in my VK's and red jones not the Supersonic i am going to recap all with premium film caps -if i can't hear it at least i'll know i "did it".

I am getting ready to run automated tests on the supersonic before i do some stuff to it then after - such as a IC swap for the tl072 in the loop - raiser is a tle-2072 replacement considering it is a tube amp and noisy but why add more or the ramifications of a "different" type of noise - harmonic content dist crap etc to-through the loop circuit.- so i will report my findings

The car i want to build PROPER is this

gotta go-
