Hello!

I have been thinking about modding my DRRI for a bit and i have ended up considering
the following possibility:

-Installing a on/off switch for the bright cap on the vibrato channel, because i play guitars with both singlecoil and humbucker pickups. Would it be possible to install the switch behind the amp? I would not like to mess up my nice front panel :)

What do you people think about this idea? In my mind it sounds like a good thing to do, but is there something that im not seeing? :)

It's really easier to merely clip the bright cap than to install a switch and wire it up.

In my case, I left the cap alone but elected to perform the "Fritz Mod". This simple change makes the reverb and tremolo available on both channels as well as putting both channels in phase with one another (required for proper channel-jumpering). Thus, I use my normal channel (which does not have the bright cap) for guitars with single-coil pickups and reserve the vibrato channel for those instruments with humbuckers or P90s (both of which generally benefit from the brighter EQ curve with the cap in place).

Thanks Arjay!
I too was thinking of putting in a switch for the brite cap but your solution works better!

Thank you Arjay!

That sounds like a really good option.

There is one thing that bothers me with the fritz mod... When playing with two guitars
they both either have reverb or dont. So it becomes impossible to have normal rhythm guitar and a solo guitar with reverb?

Correct. They'll both have trem as well if the effect is engaged.

Yep, I did the "Fritz Mod" a couple of years ago, and it was the best thing ever. It works great. Never had any problems. I use the Normal channel all the time with reverb. Brilliant

Indeed!

"Fritz" Holzhauer is currently working to adapt the mod for use with TRRI's and SRRI's (it may in fact be already finished and posted).

I was just about to ask if this mod was available for the trri, and I see this post. Talk about timing. Where can I go to see if its available?

Check the Fender Amp Section at the TDPRI forum -- if it's available, you'll prolly find it there.

Arjay,
I just checked the schematic layout for the trri and it's identical to that of the drri, at least that part of the circuit is. So I'm assuming i could just go ahead and apply that mod, your thoughts?

I had a few e-mail chats with "Fritz" about that very topic but he would neither confirm nor deny that the circuits were identical. I've looked both schems over carefully and it sure looks to me like they're the same -- which was my reason for contacting Fred directly in the first place. As of late December, he said he was "working on it". That's the extent of what I know as of now.
